Set in a disused hospital, the museum covers art painting and archeology. Especially the paintings by El Greco are a delight to see. Don't miss the large Portuguese tiles.

We needed to kill some time before our train back to Madrid so we decided to pop in to the Museo de Santa Cruz. Being a little tired after a day of going up and down hills in Toledo we first sat on one of the benches in the courtyard overlooking a nice garden. Scattered around on the walls were some interesting old gravestones.

After a while we decided to explore some. We found there were 3 separate exhibitions. 1 of tiles and ceramics from the Toledo area. All the descriptions were in Spanish so we didn't really understand them, but it was fun to try and translate the text based on the French we know.

The second exhibit was a combination of art and artifacts that went as far back as 10th century BC. We wound up spending 1.5 hours in here, and for our family in a museum, that is an eternity.

Lovely museum in heart of Old Toledo. A must see with not only El Grecos, but wonderful religious sculptures. Olive trees fill a lovely courtyard.

A great use of the beautiful, renovated old hospital with a formidable collection of chiefly local artists, including El Greco and mostly 16th and 17th centuries, showing a lot of Arab influences as well.
