“Quiet, No Frills Hotel in the Heart of Town”
Reviewed February 20, 2010

We stayed here 1 night. The location was great, one block from Plaza Zocodover. There's an excellent cafe/cafeteria downstairs that's open early for breakfast and lunch and serves huge bocadillos and decent coffee.

The hotel met our needs, but I'm not sure I would want to stay there more than a night or two. It was quiet, clean and cheap. The room was tiny, with dark peach walls, a small double bed, a wooden armoire, an outdated TV with a whopping 3 channels and a somewhat small bathroom with shower and bidet. The towels were as rough as sandpaper, but the sheets were soft. Soap and shower gel were provided, which was nice.

The heater never worked while we were there, so we used an extra blanket stored in the armoire. I'm sure they would have switched us into another room had we complained, but it was late when we discovered this and we just went to bed. And, for some reason, the exterior window has awful 1970's glass block in it. It's not a real window, so it created an awful feeling of claustrophobia as we couldn't see out, or get direct sunlight in. Weird. If they knocked out that glass block, it would transform the entire room.

Other than that, the desk clerks were friendly and Toledo was just incredible.

We spent just one night at Hotel Imperio on our recent trip to Spain and would say that this hotel has a very good price/value relationship. We rented two rooms since there were five of us (two adults, three children). The rooms were clean and perfectly serviceable, while the people at the front desk were very nice. One warning --- know where you are going if you are arriving by car. The town is a maze of narrow, one-way streets, and we ultimately ended up driving across a plaza and down streets barely wide enough to accommodate the car to get there, all of which I think were actually the ways we were supposed to go. You’ll need to unload your vehicle into the hotel lobby and then park a few blocks away.

Great location, just next to Plaza Zocover. Easily walkable to cathedral. Very cheap and good value, but quite basic. Aircon. Quiet. Cheaply priced cafe/bar immediately adjacent.

We emailed the hotel directly and made reservations with a credit card, but you need to pay cash at the hotel.
*** We arrrvied VERY LATE to Toledo after missing our flight from Vienna to Madrid. I called the hotel from Vienna to inform them of our late arrival, they said someone would be waiting for us. To my delight, upon finding the hotel (on a small street, just off the main plaza) I knocked on the front door and an old man, who was resting on the couch, got up and greeted us at the door. The time was about 1:15am! He was not mad or anything, just cordial and helpful. I tried to tip him 10 Euros for the trouble, but he refused it.

1. ROOM: The room was quite small with 2 single beds, nightstand, 2 nice windows, dresser, etc. It was small, but cute, comfortable and clean. The bathroom was decent size. Toilet & bidet. Looked like the bath was recently remodeled, nice tile work & fixtures. No shampoo or soap provided (common I'm finding in Europe) Shower head is very short and must be held by hand...kind of strange really. Water pressure good with good hot water. Bedding is clean, sheets and covers kind of thin, but acceptable. No need for Air conditioning, not sure if they had, but you probably need it in summer or hot days.

2. AMMENITIES. Great view from corner room. 2 windows overlooking street and small church plaza. Bells did not ring or bother us. Big shutters if you need them, also curtains can darken room. Hotel has small elevator as wel as stairs. Nice paintings on each floor, tastefully decorated landing. Everything seems in neat, tidy appearance. Front desk is staffed by cordial, helpful Spanish speakers that try hard at English. Get Spanish language book for in depth conversations.

3. LOCATION: About 100 yards from the Main Plaza. Awesome location. walking distance to all sights. Hilly town so beware. Parking is down the hill and hourly, so plan carefully if you have a car. Narrow lanes so watch out. Spaniards stay up very late and talk in the streets, so some street noice if trying to sleep wth windows open, but not bad.

Overall, this is an EXCELLENT Budget hotel. Great price, service, and decent, clean smallish room. Highly recommended for the budget traveler. Photos included with review. Email any questions. I'm happy to answer. ~Bart

Great hotel. Was small enought to seem home-like, but large enough to accomodate a bunch of rowdy American tourists. Great service staff as well as a lovely bar attached that had good prices as well as great food. Excellent area to be located at, just a short walk from the center of the city.

We wanted to stay in the heart of the old city, and this hotel was perfect! Only a few steps from the Plaza Zocodover, and a short distance to the catedral, this newly remodeled hotel offers pleasant, clean double rooms with attached baths for less than 50 euro a night! Located in an historic building and close to everything you'd want to see, we'd recommend this to anyone. Similar budget hotels in Madrid would cost MUCH more. Attached was an excellent café bar, offering a delicious menu del día for only 6 euro.
