Church is normal - just like one of the hundreds others in Spain.

With regard to El Greco's painting "Burial of Count Orgaz" (separate entrance - not through the church) - well, we paid 2,50 euro to see it but we left very dissapointed. There's NO INFORMATION about what we see inside, even in Spanish. What's even more surprising? I later checked the official website and it's full of information about the painting. So I ask: why can't they place this information next to the painting? Shame! Shame!

So if you're without a good guide you'll be probably dissapointed just as we were. But you can also try to wait for a group and try to listen to the group's guide.

We visited Santo Tome after the Cathedral and appreciated this venue for its size and greater closeness to its people. This a good example of a church for the people.
It has all the ingredients to make it a noteworthy church in a very religiously storied city where Jews, Muslims and Catholics cohabited for many years in peace.
Appreciated this visit as it put back the Church at the level of the people.

People come to this church only to see El Greco’s "The Burial of the Count of Orgaz".
The cost is 2.50 Euros (free with the ToledoCard) and is so not worth it.

The painting is in a rather miserable shape, and the place suffers from overcrowding from tourists groups. Of course, no photography is allowed (yeah, right...).

As for the church itself – well, it is VERY plain, and one would say – almost too plain for a 12th century church.

You can easily skip this overrated place, or juts check it out from the outside.
In case you do decide to enter, 5 minutes would be more than enough to explore this small, unimpressive church.

Santo Tome is a very simple chapel which houses what some call El Greco's best-loved painting, The Burial of Count Orgaz. It is certainly a beautiful work, and is perfectly set just above the Count’s tomb, as opposed to in an art museum. As part of a tightly organized day trip it was worth the visit, and our guide did a good job of taking us through the intricacies of the painting, as it simultaneously offers two views: in the lower half of the painting we see the burial on earth, with several onlookers, one of them El Greco himself; in the upper we see the Count being taken into heaven. It’s a powerful and once again, well-placed piece of work. Worth a brief visit on your trip to Toledo

I enjoyed this church and we almost had the place to ourselves. We went an hour before closing and sat quietly in the pews and absorbed everything around us. There was a 15 or so person tour standing in front of the El Greco painting when we walked in, but by the time we went out we had the painting to ourselves.

Avoid the crowds and go late.
