I went here to see the painting by El Greco, "The Burial of the Count of Orgaz". I cannot comment on the church itself, because this is the attraction I saw. It is truly remarkable, and worth paying the entrance to go and see. Just be forewarned, that like others have stated, it can get busy. The day that I went, there were a LOT of people. So many, in fact, that they were staggering the visitors, as they would only allow a certain amount of people in the room that houses El Greco's masterpiece (which is a small room that can fit maybe 75 people). You will eventually get up close to the painting, but don't expect to be able to stay there more than a few minutes (when it's busy), because there are more people behind you waiting for their turn to see the painting. Also, they don't allow pictures/ cameras and are really strict about it, so be sure to put your camera away before going in.

There is the famous El Greco painting, which can be viewed through and over the heads of dozens of bustling tourists clambering to get a photo of it. I had to hip-check one guy who tried to push me out of his way, it was crazy.
If you actually go inside the humble church, you will find a quiet respite for respectful contemplation.

Obviously, the big draw here is El Greco's Burial of the Count of Orgaz, and it's absolutely stunning - to see it in situ is really quite remarkable, and it's vibrant and otherworldly - don't miss it.

We knew that this church contained an El Greco painting. We paid the minimal entrance fee and suddenly, in the entrance hall, there was "The Funeral of the Count of Orgaz!" The painting is absolutely amazing. It has movement, colour and a great wow factor. We stood and gazed at it for some time before entering the church. The church itself was not very appealing. All the statues appeared in your face and had a style I found repelling. However, the picture behind the altar was very interesting. As I looked, the penny dropped. It was a painting of the moment when Jesus appeared to Thomas who exclaimed, "My Lord and my God!" Of course, it keyed into the name of the church, St Thomas. Worth the visit just to see the El Greco.

The Burial of Count Orgaz makes this stop a must. El Greco's oil on canvas is captivating. No cameras aloud so buy a postcard or book to stoke your memory of this amazing piece of art.
