“Sephardic History”
Reviewed May 8, 2013

This small museum is dedicated to the history of Sephardic Jewish history in Toledo and Spain. There are excellent discussions of the history of the Jewish people in Spain prior to the Expulsion Edict of 1492. Also, profiled are Jewish festivals and cultural activities. It has a beautiful Mudejar wall, one of the best we saw on our trip. There is small fee to enter.

“Poignant testimony to a tragically lost heritage”
Reviewed April 7, 2013

It is wonderful that Spain has at last started to acknowledge the cultural importance of its Jewish (and Moslem) heritage even if what is lost cannot really be brought back. The musem is housed in a good modern building attached to a large mediaeval synagogue and containing a wealth of material about the lives of the Jews of Toledo as well as a superb introduction to Jewish beliefs and practices which we, as non-Jews, found very interesting indeed. It should not be missed in one's tour of Toledo, standing as it does so close to El Greco'shouse and other important sites. As EU over -65s we were admitted free. Anyone with a strong interest in the subject could usefully spend a lot more time than we suggest.

“A ghost - but worth seeing”
Reviewed March 27, 2013

The building has a fine roof and elaborate plasterwork facade, with the recess that would have held the Torah Scrolls when the synagogue was in Jewish hands. There is a creditable attempt to preserve the ancient link through a small, interesting museum of Sephardic artefacts. However, these are relatively modern and have no direct connection with the synagogue itself. The building is worth seeing on its merits and for its associations, but it is a ghost of what it was, and what it represented, in mediaeval Toledo.
