We sought out this restaurant after seeing such good reviews on TA, and weren't disappointed!

It's a family-run place, and the English-speaking son was really helpful in explaining the menu and how it works: He recommended sharing dishes, and pointed out that they serve half-portions too, which were a lovely idea, and so cost-effective - We couldn't have managed full portions!

The food is really well-cooked and very local. We had the pork stew and some fish, plus fabulous roasted vegetables (a rarity in Spain, we find!). The red wine was delicious too.

We sat at a raised table with a very interesting glass top, displaying all sorts of delights underneath!

The restaurant was full of locals and a few tourists, so a good mix.

If you like a local vibe, with real Spanish food, this is for you!

(Apparently Fabula, a restaurant just up the road, is run by the brother, but was closed at the time we went).

Other reviews said it was hard to find so we just went to the tourism info center at the train station and asked them to mark it on the map. There are taxis there so we took a taxi from the station to the restaurant, 4,80 EUR for 2 people. Definitely worth it considering the steep hike up! We ordered the beef with onions and the pork as others suggested, and they were both great! Pork better IMO, and free fresh bread. We had our own water bottles. Then we walked to the cathedral which wasn't too far but was uphill. Overall, highly highly recommend! Also, they open at 11:30 for lunch. Ask for both the Spanish and English menus!

Had lunch and dinner in this very typical Spanish restaurant today. Was very nice to sit on the terrace for lunch but also to sit inside for dinner. Only restaurant in Toledo which was full of spanish people, not tourists. Simple well cooked meals with very pleasant and helpful waiters. House wine and beer also very good. Best place to eat in Toledo bar none....not too expensive either and everything can be ordered in half portions.

After all the positive reviews about this restaurant it came as a bit of a shock after finding the location to find a note on the front door advising - 'closed for 2 weeks for holidays'. In the middle of the tourist season (end of August ) seems strange that the management can up sticks and take a holiday ?.Although everybody is entitled to a vacation maybe this action say's something about their attitude to customers.Obviously they are doing too well when other venues in Toledo were very keen for your patronage at this busy time.

We were staying in the Hostal de Cardenal which is 10 mins from the hotel - at the top of the escalators, just keep going straight, across a lane and its on your left - keep going further and you get to El Greco's museum.

Great food, big portions - we had 4 dishes & 4 beers, bill came to about 50 euros - brilliant value!

Highly recommended.
