“Unique museum”
Reviewed April 28, 2013

Ok so it really wasn't where el Greco lived but it was a replica built across the street. Many of the paintings are by people who copies his style. They do have a 13 portrait collection of el greco's portraits of the apostles. Free on Sundays. All in all very interesting and informative and beautiful in its own right.

“Lovely introduction to El Greco and to 16th century Toledo”
Reviewed April 7, 2013

Returning after 35 years we found a much enhanced and most enjoyable museum combining many of El Greco's paintings withe good insights into his life and the life of his times, based on a lovingly restored old house and garden. We were there just after opening time and had gthe place to ourselves, which was lovely, but we didn't find the layout very easy. Try every door! As EU over-65s this one was free for us.

“Astonishingly interesting”
Reviewed April 4, 2013

I don't normally like art galleries but this was fascinating with its insight into El Greco's life. The layout of the building was interesting, too, and showed a glimpse of how life used to be a few hundred years ago.

“This is a surprising and lovely museum”
Reviewed March 19, 2013

Toledo was a very easy train ride from Madrid and my teenagers and I loved what we saw there. This museum will surprise and delight visitors, and it's open a little later than other things.

“Very enjoyable bite-sized museum”
Reviewed March 13, 2013

I am not a fan of El Greco, but as our hotel was across the street we went in. I really enjoyed the visit, beginning with the underground cellars and baths of the Jewish palace which the house originally was. The staff were welcoming and casual, as there weren't man people. The quality of the English explanations was excellent, and the architecture interested me even when the paintings did not. The personal interest stories about the life of El Greco were fascinating. For 3 Euros it was a delightful bargain and I recommend a visit. I gave the museum 4 stars because the gift shop (a favorite part of museums) was neglected and closed.
