Nicely decorated, clean and cosy hotel close to the beach. Disappointing room size though, sold as a double when it really was a single. Lovely decor and pleasant reception desk staff. Didn't have breakfast so cannot rate it.

I stayed on the 28th of February 2013 with my sister in room 304

The rooms are clean and spacious and definitely a value for money.

The hotel is located in "El Sardinero" which is on Santander's coastline. It is a 15 minutes bus ride from the city centre. The best things to view is not the city centre but the coastline so the location of the hotel is perfect. It is a 20 minutes walk of one of the main attractions of Santander which is "La Península de la Magdalena" which host a little zoo and is home to a palace which is being used to film a popular Spanish TV Series called "Gran Hotel".

I stayed for a week in this small family run hotel nad found it very comfortable. The staff, many of whom are family members, were extremely helpful and friendly. It has a good location, being only a short walk to the sea. In the town itself the tourist open top bus can be accesssed, which takes you around the main sights. The area is attractive with manicured gardens ajacent to the beach and a wide selection of restuarants. I hired a private taxi to take me to nearby villages, which was not too expensive. The hotel reception booked all this up for me. I do recommend a visit to Santalina del Mar.

We chose this hotel because they accepted our dogs. On arrival we discovered that the booking for the dogs had not been recorded, but payment of a modest extra charge rectified the problem.

However, the room was not as booked; it had a double rather than twin beds, and the promised kettle was missing. Eventually the manager found us a kettle, but he could do nothing about twin beds as the hotel was fully booked.

All the rooms are up stairs. The corridors stank very unpleasantly of bleach. Our room was a reasonable size for the price and it had a fridge, but there was only one wall plug with a very old two plug adaptor so we had to choose between using the bedside light, fridge, kettle or our pc (the free wifi did not work).

The bathroom was equipped with an ancient bubble-jet tub (non-working, rusty jets and still containing sand from the last guests). Wall tiles were missing, nothing was as clean as might have been expected; the overwhelming impression was one of neglect. There was only enough warm water for a quick face-wash (one wash, not two).

The front desk is untended in the evening, with only a 'phone-number for any queries.
After the receptionist had gone home, the door handle of our room literally fell apart in my husband's hand - locking us inside the room! Unfortunately I had not taken the precaution of writing down the 'phone number at the desk. Our only exit involved a two-storey drop onto concrete.

Luckily I had a miniature screwdriver in my bag so could dismantle the lock, escape, fetch the tool kit and 3in1-oil from our car, and then re-build the lock and handle as we did not relish spending the night with the door ajar.
In the morning I told the concierge what had happened; he said that they knew about the problem, and congratulated me on my handiwork!

On the plus side, the hotel is right behind the Sardinas beach, in the centre of town. The staff are cheerful and friendly, though only one receptionist that we met spoke English. As budget accommodation it is probably the better option in Santander, especially for those whose choice is limited to hotels that accept pets.

Would we stay there again? Overnight, yes - for 35€ per person one cannot be too fussy, although the incident with the door lock is worrying - it might have been very frightening for a less resourceful visitor who would have been locked in until they could attract attention. Perhaps this had in fact happened to another hapless guest, as the concierge already knew that the lock was faulty?

If the management read this review, can I recommend most strongly that the 'phone number to summon assistance is clearly displayed *inside every room*!

Stayed here for about a month while I studied at Universidad de Cantabria. The school is close by and the beach is literally right across the street! The hotel is decorated nicely and is maintained well. The staff is very nice and helpful. The owners are awesome as well. The breakfast is great. Free wifi! Also, there is complimentary wine :)

I stayed at this hotel for about a month while studying abroad in Santander. I loved this hotel. Everything about it was great from its location, to the breakfast, to the friendly and very accommodating staff. The hotel was only about a 2-3 minutes walk away from the beach, about a 20 minute walk to the university and a 10 minute bus ride to the city centre. The breakfast was also very delicious. It included eggs, cold cut meats, cereal, pastries, etc. I would definitely stay here again if I came back to Santander.

This hotel was such a lovely surprise. We drove into Santander quite late and happened upon it by luck. It's so great we decided to stay another night. Just 70 euros (86$) for a lovely room with view of the sea off the balcony, period furnishings and a modern (tho small) bath with a soothing rain shower head. Also has free wifi and a delicious and generous breakfast buffet included in price. Nice little touches like pretty china tea cups an a kettle in room, bathrobe etc. location also very convenient. Staff and owner v accommodating and friendly.
Yes, rooms are small, but it's an 18th century converted mansion in Spain -- if you want standard American sizes rooms you'll have to pay a lot more and lose the charm.
