Overall we enjoyed our stay. The hotel is clean and nice, but no frills. The bed was very big, which we liked. The location was great right next to the bus station. I felt it was a little overpriced, but I guess most hotels in the area are. Some of the staff was very helpful, and others weren't at all. We arrived before checkin time and though I was quite certain they had rooms available (based on just booking one day earlier and them having availability for the nights before), we were told it wasn't time for check-in and to return later. That wasn't ideal, but I guess it was fair since they do publish check-in times. The best part of the hotel was the location.

Stayed here at the end of our trip around northern Spain so we could get on the ferry to Plymouth with minimum hassle and it paid off. Nice hotel with friendly staff made our stay really nice especially the tips about where to eat. Its only 5 minutes from the ferry terminal so it was really great for us. One point of warning is that parking can be difficult near the hotel but in the summer I guess it’s difficult anywhere in Santander.

The Abba is located near the main tourist strip of Santander (near the local cafes and ferry terminal). All in all, it’s a pretty convenient location for a stopover or extended stay. The hotel is clean and modern and the rooms are comfortable. Parking is available at the nearby underground car park at towards the ferry terminal, however with the one way streets finding the entrance is quite fun.

Abba doesn’t miss a branding opportunity and expect to see more logos than you have fingers and toes. Given the smells, furnishings and overall finish, it appears that the hotel has undergone a soft refurbishment in the past months. Everything was incredibly clean.

The room (twin for 2) was quite large and best of all, the small balcony lets you watch the local life of Santander come to life in the morning over an in-room coffee. The room had also had TV and a trouser press (good luck figuring out how to use it though).

Overall, I’d recommend this property if you’re looking for a convenient, quiet and uninterrupted stay in Santander. It’s a solid 3 star property and within walking distance to harbour tour embarkation points, fantastic local cafes and tapas joints.

This place was practical, functional and in a great location for the price we paid, but nothing special.

Close to the ferry terminal, bus station and main attractions of Santander it is walking distance to most of the points of interest. We were lucky enough to score the last free parking bay out the front of the hotel as another guest pulled out, and dared not move our car until we departed. The bloke on the reception counter was a miserable old codger, who I had to explain to, blow by blow, what I was doing in the reception of his hotel, just in case he couldn't guess from cases we were carrying with us, and me presenting myself by name and with passport! Needless to say, I did my best not to cross paths with him for the rest of our stay!

The rooms are small, clean and basic, but this was one of very few places we stayed which didn't have free wireless internet.

If you're looking for somewhere middle of the road with a good location, nothing special, clean, practical and not too expensive then this is the place for you.

We arrived on the ferry as foot passengers and it was an easy walk to the hotel, straight across from the terminal and down to the left. The hotel is very close to the bus station, RENFE rail and FEVE rail stations so onward travel couldn't be easier. We asked for a room with a balcony,so we could see the sea at the end of the road. The balcony wasn't big enough to sit out on and the roadwas quite lively with city life.. We were very happy with our room, which was compact with most of the space taken up by the lovely comfy beds. The airconditioning was very useful, easy to operate and quiet. The buffet breakfast was delicious with a wide variety of options and excellent service. The restaurant is a lovely room, but there was no option to eat there in the evening. The ground floor bar was also out of action - a shame really, but the area near the hotel has bars and restaurants. We can't face a big meal at lunchtime and struggled to find somewhere to eat well early in the evening .

Santander is very Spanish so don't expect to find familiar English brands or English spoken. It is geared up for Spanish tourists in July and August and we were disappointed in June to find no circular tours of the city or boat tours of the bay available. We took the bus to Bilbao and nearly got stranded there because we hadn't booked a return ticket. If you're on a tight budget, the cheaper buses get booked up early and we had to pay double to come back on the luxury coach - the journey was quite spectacular and is well recommended.

We chose Abba Santander because of its central city location, as we live in a beach area at home. On the whole we were happy with our choice, though it would have been better for us if there had been an option to eat or drink in the hotel in the evening.

Let's be positive to start. The location of the Abba Santander is excellent. Right opposite the ferry port ( main promenade etc ) and close to the restaurant and bar areas of this beautiful city.
Also ... ideal for onward journeys by train or bus and for those with cars...limited free parking in the roadway immediately outside or secure underground parking just a couple of hundreds yards away...but that is expensive even with the hotel discount...14-16 Euros a day.

The room was fine although smaller than average...but it was comfortable and spotlessly clean. There is quite a bit of traffic noise especially from the main bus station alongside. BUT that about sums up the Abba Santander. There is a " lounge bar " in the reception area which should be open most evenings except Sundays, according to the literature in the room....but it never opened while we were there for three nights. It looked dead, with a feeble effort to provide coffee and a plate of croissants ( uncovered ) which were there from breakfast until presumably the next day's breakfast. In other words the hotel is YOUR ROOM and nothing else. No chance of a quiet drink at the Abba Santander...you need to go out, whatever time night or day.
Breakfast....very little variety....a feeble attempt at a cold continental buffet and an even more feeble attempt at a hot breakfast. Cold scrambled eggs ( already changing colour and looking rather risky ) , bacon drenched in fat, and some "sausages".( we think )..all uncovered and open to the elements . Add to that curled up bread ready for toasting and empty or near empty jugs of juice and you have the picture.
We sampled these delights on our first two mornings, but were unable to do so on the third morning due to a mystery stomach bug which I contracted on day two.
Would we stay there again - NO.
OK room, but no atmosphere and an AWFUL breakfast.

The Abba Hotel in Santander was a wonderful find for me. Friendly reception staff. Glass walled elevator. Really comfortable room. Bathroom was complimented by good quality soaps, toothpaste/toothbrush, bath gels and shampoos. Close to the railway station and airport bus. Would not hesitate to return.
