Beautiful sculptures that made me reflect on what life must have been like for these children. Worth visiting.

“Poignant bronze figures”
Reviewed August 5, 2014

This is not one of the tacky pieces of street sculpture popular with urban planners. The figures of the boys are beautiful, small and isolated as the children they celebrate may have been in life. There is a fascinating history behind the boys who dived into the sea to collect coins thrown from boats and the quay. There's an excellent detailed review here: http://pamelacahill.com/2013/05/30/los-raqueros-bay-sculptures/

“And the sardine-seller”
Reviewed June 14, 2014

I enjoyed the Raqueros monument a lot, even in the rain. Not far away there's a similar monument to the poor women who used once to sell sardines in this district. It's called the Monumento a La Sardinera, or just La Sardinera for short. To get there, go to the roundabout near Los Raqueros (Plaza Matias Montero) and walk straight inland for about two hundred yards until you get to a second roundabout. La Sardinera stands in the middle, with a straw fish-basket on her head.

“Representing real people”
Reviewed March 24, 2013

At last a group of statues of poor common people. Really much more representatives than those statues of conquerors, priests, kings or even dictators...

“An excellent and fun sculpture”
Reviewed November 1, 2012

Saw a postcard of this on the ferry to Santander and was delighted to chance upon it during our evening stroll. It is even better in reality and very well crafted.

We were amused that a fisherman had used one of the bathers to hold and extra rod for him. However, a local woman was very cross with him and continue to remonstrate long after he had removed it and despite us repeating that we were sorry we didn't understand.
