“Staff couldn't have been more helpful! Will come again!”
Reviewed September 8, 2013

We stayed for a couple of nights here with our camper van and tent at the end of our 2 week holiday touring around Spain, when we were in dire need of a bit of rest and relaxation after having driven quite a few miles across the country during our trip! We certainly got it here! We were lucky and had none of the issues with noise that others have experienced. In fact, we had some lovely neighbours who had also been touring around in their camper.

We stayed in a small but dedicated area for camper vans which is located amongst several of the chalets and accessible up a sharp incline (which was quite a fun challenge after an evening eating pintxos and drinking Rioja!).

The site, in general, is not that big and seems to be mostly given over to the chalets and camping with tents, although we did see some larger motorhomes in another part of the site.

The swimming pool was clean, well maintained and of a good size. Very welcome in the August heat! The only thing I would say is that it's a shame you have to descend/ascend quite a few steps to reach it - the (what looks like an) old entrance at the side is closed off.

We didn't use the store but popped into the bar area and few times in the daytime and hooked up to the free WIFI which worked very well. Again, nice helpful staff.

We would definitely come here again with our camper van or even book a chalet. You cannot pre-book for the camping though.

You can get a bus into town but you need to be mindful of the timetable as, it's quite a walk to pick up a bus on a more frequent route closer to the town. We would get a bus into town and a taxi back. (we didn't take our camper as it was hooked up and, during August, it can also be a bit challenging parking in Santander).

The faro (lighthouse) is close to the site and well worth a visit. These days, they have quite a few outside tables, along with a varied menu.

We found the site good value for money and the staff exceptionally helpful and accommodating. We really enjoyed our short time here and it's a great base from which to explore the wonderful city of Santander. Can't wait to go back again!

Just returned from a fortnight at Cabo Mayor booked through Brittany Ferries.
Hired a "bungalow" which was very basic but clean and adequately equipped- no television
but that was a blessing.
Staff are friendly, pool and bar are adequate. Camp shop provides basics .
Views fro nearby lighthouse and bar are stunning as are those from walks around the bay.
Beach certainly seems like more than 400metres away and we were not warned that it could only be reached by over 130 steps !!
Main problem( and this may be seasonal) is the noise from Spanish Teenagers who
were shouting and listening to music until two or three in the morning. We complained to site staff who kindly issued warnings which were pretty well ignored .
Things improved during second week ( 1st week in August) but sleep was impossible on several nights.

Camp site was only a 10min drive from ferry terminal, easy to find (used google maps). We arrived without any reservation, it was the last week of July, and plenty of pitches available at top of site. The common car parking area is next to the pitch although it was on a higher level 2m wall. Pitches are on the small size, but not really a dividing line so we stretched across next door. The swimming pool is fine, not heated, but clean and quiet. The receptionist only spoke basic English but this was fine. Toilet block large and clean, but seemed sparse. We walked to the lighthouse, and the nearest main beach is 5min drive. This is a lovely beach. We enjoyed the night at this camp site and would recommend it if looking for somewhere to stay after arriving on the Plymouth-Santander ferry before moving on next day like us.

The Michelin map we bought on the ferry does not correctly show the access to this camping. Camping Cabo Mayor has a very obvious entrance on the Avenida del Faro, about 300 metres before the lighthouse. Use the free street plan available on the ferry and follow the Avenido del Faro off the map to the north.

We went for one night and stayed for seven. The pitches are a bit small. We could not have fitted our 7 metre van with a car and awning on one pitch. But since it was October the site was three quarters empty and everyone had two pitches. There are lots of pitches for tents.

The showers (free) and loos are clean (being mainly marble and tiles) and spacious, but rather spartan – no soap dispensers or hand driers, and only one public loo roll. There are four washing machines but no driers. Each caravan pitch has water and electricity. We liked it.

The site does not admit dogs, and closed for the winter on October 12th.

found staff at reception very heplful. Usually stay here at start and end of motor bike touring holiday because its so close to the ferry port. Food very good not the cheapest but worth it big portions , toilets /showers very clean only problem was the push button in gents showers but this seems to be what is in most sites now - it was a nice surprise to find the twist on taps in the ladies showers . Would recommend this site easy to walk down into main santander - bus available for those who cant be bothered walking or aren't able. Beautiful site , beautiful town well worth a visit .

Unhelpful, unfriendly and disinterested staff, rip off prices. Supermarket empty and closed.

Cleaner of toilets used same cloths to wipe basins that she used to wipe the toilet pans and urinals. Unfortunately, the latter were cleaned first.

We would not recommend this site to anyone. It was a bad experience all round. The staff are very rude and unhelpful and there is a dog kennel or something close by and dogs bark all night every night.
