“Good Service, and Excellent Food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 25, 2013

It was our last day in Santander, so we decided to have a menu del dia for 15 euros each. We had an aperitif of dry sherry before and were given a free tapas of olives. We don't eat meat, and the waiter remembered that we had asked about meat free meals the day before and translated the dishes we didn't know. They change the menu each day unlike some of the more touristy places nearer the casino.
We had white beans with clams for a starter with a huge crusty bread roll, the Rioja wine was delicious. Then we bacaclao with tomato and red pepper sauce, and it was the best we've tried, all freshly made and hot. For desserts I had pear in red wine, and my husband had ice cream.
The staff were all attentive ( not too much) and treated us with grand style

“Nice cafe style restaurant with good food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 12, 2011

Went there with my wife, it seemed a nice street cafe near the Casino. Inside there was a plain but very clean restaurant so opted to have our evening meal. There is an english translation of the menu, but this is a partial translation. The staff were very helpful and we got an idea of what was on offer, we had cod with a tomato sauce and added chips and a half bottle of excellent Rioja, this with our pre meal drinks came to 50 Euros. Next night was our last night in Spain and the hotel restaurant seemed a bit sterile so we returned this time we had Hake a la Romana with chips and roasted
veg, with a bottle of house Rioja and coffes we paid 70 Euros, it was worth every cent.

“Usual good standard and service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 2, 2011

Arrived in Santander on a "Festival Day". Checked into the hotel and went straight to La Cania where it was very full but managed to get a table for 2.
The special menu del dia was 20 euros including a bottle of Rioja Crianza.
Great starters but the star of the show was the main course of a trio of fish fillets, each one different (sea bass, hake and red mullet). All were cooked to perfection and made it a meal to remember.
Ate here twice during our 4 dyas in Santander and again 2 weeks later before getting the ferry back to the UK. Good food, good friendly service, just great!
