It was our last day in Santander, so we decided to have a menu del dia for 15 euros each. We had an aperitif of dry sherry before and were given a free tapas of olives. We don't eat meat, and the waiter remembered that we had asked about meat free meals the day before and translated the dishes we didn't know. They change the menu each day unlike some of the more touristy places nearer the casino.
We had white beans with clams for a starter with a huge crusty bread roll, the Rioja wine was delicious. Then we bacaclao with tomato and red pepper sauce, and it was the best we've tried, all freshly made and hot. For desserts I had pear in red wine, and my husband had ice cream.
The staff were all attentive ( not too much) and treated us with grand style
