“Gourmet food!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 20, 2013

There are two ways to go at this restaurant and you can't go wrong either way. Downstairs, it's a more casual environment with great tapas and pinchos and a wide selection of wines. Some of their regular menu items can be ordered there as a tapa or ración portion (if you don't want to order the full size). Great for a quick bite and excellent service. Upstairs, you eat a la carte with soft jazz playing in the background. Their menu is creative and takes advantage of local fish and produce. You can go as simple as a salmorejo with a touch of anchoas (their twist on the original version) or as far out as a tuna tartare with foie gras. Everything is delicious. Be adventurous! The chef will come and check on you, tell you the specials and take your order. Then waiters serve your food and make sure all your needs are met. Definitely one of the best meals ever in Santander. The only negative, in my opinion, is the lighting. Dimmer lights would suit the place better. Other than that, a perfect dinner!

“Good choice”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 28, 2013

Popular with the locals and had a good feel about the place. Food items clearly marked up on the chalkboards behind the bar - we had a racion of croquetas between us, but was a little pricey at €9. Basic red wine was also a little dearer than other bars at €1.70. Staff were friendly enough.

“A top performer”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 24, 2013

Cantabria in general and Santander in particular is not geared to the monoglot anglophone. Asubio made some effort to accommodate our lack of Spanish and deliver a great dining experience. There are several good restaurants in the Plaza Canadio area and Asubio is one of the best.

“Excellent Tapas Bar”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 16, 2013

Interesting and tasty pinchos, good selection of wines - the girl behind the bar showed us the various bottles, each with the price per glass written on the bottle. Friendly little place we would return to.

“Unusual pinchos”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 9, 2013

Most pinchos seemed to cost 3.6 Euros each, which is a lot more than other nearby places. However, they did offer very unusual pinchos - we tried an oxtail one and another with fried calamari and peppers. Both were delicious but not great value and wine was also more expensive than other nearby bars.
