“Yummy!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 10, 2013

We were recommended this place by the receptionist in the hotel and I'm so glad we went.
We arrived at 10pm and the place was packed with locals, many of whom seemed to know each other, which gave it a friendly feel. We were warmly welcomed by the waiters and were eventually seated after about 15 minutes when a table became free.
The service was attentive throughout the meal.
The food, which generally consists of tapas, was excellent and reasonably priced.
My only criticism would be about the table wine which, at 15€ a bottle, seemed overpriced as it tasted like it was only worth 5€! Make sure you ask to see the wine list and choose carefully!

“Excellent local place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 29, 2013

Everything was great - the food, the atmosphere. This tiny pub alike place has excellent food and helpful staff even though they don't speak much English. It is truly local, I recommend everyone to at least have one meal at this place.

“Excellent food and service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 11, 2013

Got this recommendation in TA and must agree with most reviewers that it's really a very good place to go in Sta. Cruz. It's small and simple but it's got the most delicious food. We went there twice as we liked it so much. Service is perfect, and when we went back the 2nd time, we were treated like family!
Their gambas al ajillo, papas gratinadas, jamon pata negra and the ropa vieja are to die for.

“Culture, service and fantastic food!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 10, 2013

My boyfriend and I came here on out first night in Santa cruz on the recommendation of the hotel staff. We were told we might have to wait but it was worth it! It was very busy when we arrived with locals mostly I think. We were seated at the bar as there was no tables. Our Spanish was terrible but we got beers and bread with cured meats and cheese. Amazing! We weren't sure what we were ordering off the menu but what arrived, sautéed tuna for me and beef for him was out of this world. Best food. On the whole trip. We also got a complimentary g&t and a scotch! Staff were so attentive and friendly. It was all a bit lost in translation for us. But we adore this place!

“What's The Big Deal?”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 8, 2013

Went for lunch and found several tables reserved so we sat at the bar. Not a big deal, but the reserved tables were still empty when we left. While waiting, they served very small complementary portions of tortilla (quite good) and thinly sliced Spanish ham (a different kind of taste - almost like perfume). Then, a tray of dry bread was served with olive oil in pre packaged plastic containers similar to coffee creamers. We ordered two dishes: (1) a tavern style potato gratinee, which consisted of small potatoes sitting in a tomato reduction sauce smothered with mozzarella style cheese and (2) an eggplant/zucchini plate, again covered with cheese. Both were very good but no better quality than found in North American food chains. Small portions of good but basic white wine were poured at 2 Euros a glass. The total bill was 30 Euros. I feel that we can do better and that this restaurant is over rated. I realize that this opinion is not consistent with previous reviews but wish to point out that my spouse and I are not fussy or over critical eaters and that we have eaten in many countries around the world.
