“Reasonable, with a bad ending!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2013

I checked in around 19:00, was relatively quick although I had to push for directions to my room. The room was very dated with worn carpet, but reasonably clean. The was also a strange, stale smell which I soon got used to. The bathroom however, was excellent: great power shower and very clean.

I eventually found the restaurant ( it also had a smell) but in general, during my stay, I found the food pretty good. Plenty of choice and never too crowded.

In the brochure, it says "the hotel overlooks the beach..." Yes it does, but about 300 feet above it. This for me was fine, I walked down to town and back everyday, sometimes more than once and found it stimulating: lost a bit of my tummy also ☺:-)
Something about Puerto de la Cruz that I wasn't aware of, was the wonderful, huge, crashing Atlantic waves that constantly pound the shore. Along the front, by the row of shops and restaurants, the sea is light with spotlights at night, it is a remarkable sight: see pic below.

It was my first time in the north and I found it wonderful: a little more cloudy for sure, but heaps more character than the south. The waves alone are worth the trip. Also very good shop wise and a few excellent supermarkets.

Now a couple of negative points:
I paid for the WiFi: 6euro a day or 25 for the week. Don't bother! It rarely had a connection and when it did, was like ancient dial up.
Of course, WiFi not essential on holiday, but as a keen photographer I was looking forward to uploading photos later in the evenings, for an hour or so.
I ended up walking down to McDonald's in the evening, buying a coffee and using their fast, free, reliable WiFi :-)
Incidentally, McDonald's in Tenerife, has become almost like an American style Diner, from Happy Days and the Spanish teens seem to like to hang out there and chat.
As I was checking out, I was handed a bill for wine and use of the safe, neither of which I'd had/ used. I explained to the lady that as a recovering alcoholic, I hadn't touched alcohol for years, she was dismissive. I also carried my little shoulder bag everywhere with me and kept valuables in it. Again she didn't seem to believe me. I refused to pay and she stormed off into the back room. This brought a decent trip to an uncomfortable end. I have e mailed the hotel since returning, an apology would go some way to easing my bad vibes towards hotel, but I won't hold my breath.

Room Tip: I was on ground floor, no view but suited me.

We had a lovely time in this Hotel, The staff were very friendly !!! yes the carpet is threadbare but are you going to be rolling on the floor ??? We spent Christmas at this hotel and found the food to be tasty. We even asked for a room change as we wanted a sea view and they changed us with out hestitaion, although no sun on that side of the hotel ( even numbered rooms).
The only fault was the bad pillows !! We would return.

Room Tip: Odd number rooms face the mountain, street and gets the sun Even number have a sea view

We used this hotel over Christmas. On the positive side, the food was excellent with a great variety and the restaurant staff were efficient and patient. Rooms were well furnished. The free shuttle bus into town was very helpful. We were on half board but it appeared that most people were on an all inclusive basis. The hotel is not responsible for its clientele but some were piling the plates high with food, most of which they left. On the negative side, the carpets do need to be properly fixed. There were dogs barking nearby which was disturbing - not necessarily the fault of the hotel. Most of the clients were mature, mainly German and behaved well. Some of the English clients who arrived later on were embarrassing. Overall, a nice resort and a good quality hotel, a little let down by the failure to sort the carpets properly. We would return to the hotel in future.

Room Tip: High rooms have better views but our was only on the second floor and it was fine.

A good holiday overall. Excellent food and a reasonably comfortable hotel. The carpets on the landings are somewhat theadbare but the rooms are clean and well looked after. The bin men calling at the hotel in the early hours of the morning didnt' help with our beauty sleep and it was a little disappointing having to use the facilities of sister hotels nearby. The majority of the guests were either German or mainland Spanish but good company.

Let's face it the price you pay for this hotel it's going to be average. The food is edible and the drink passable. Its location is not the best being high above the resort with over 200 steps to go actually into the main resort. The entertainment was dire for the most and the hotel a bit run down with thread bare carpets in places. All in all to sum it up Puerto is well worth the hour and a half from the airport. The rooms are clean and tidy and a taxi is only about 3 euro. The hotel provides a bus through the day to and from the resort and as said earlier the food is basic. This is NOT a 4 star hotel so expect an average 3 star at best or book one of the better hotels actually in the resort centre.

Just got back from a Nov holiday, myself, hubby and our 7 yr old. Very worried as we booked before reading reviews but thank goodness people were really unfair. Hotel was brilliant, spotlessly clean, great room, clean good towels and bedding, food honestly cant say enough just stunning, so much choice, we stayed in room 603 lovely big balcony views over both pool and sea, obviously cant speak of other rooms but ours was brill. just one small moan that nobody else has said on here that we booked full board however evening meal still had to pay 5 euros, 2 each for adult and 1 for child for drinks during eve meal, bit annoying as this was the case regardless of whether we drank or not, I realise hard to police but we paid for half board which includes eve meal so somewhere we should of been told about the supplement, that aside staff brill good english, great sea views. Lots of small shops and eating places alongside the hotel and we could use the facilities of both Bonanza and Canarife too, all the pools were freezing as not heated but once in you soon warm up and it is nov after all, people moaning about the cloud ! they cant direct the weather, and cloud or not it was still up to 27 every day, 4 of the 7 days full on sun, 3 in and out of the clouds, eve temps around 19, we wore shorts day and night, however tip to take one long pair of trousers as eve meal they dont allow shorts at the tables and thats fine. People moan on here that all stuff ie shops, beaches down loads of steps, well lots around the hotel and if you want the main beach its only a few euros for a cab but the walk is stunning the views are stunning and your on holiday so whats the rush, walk it as its a great walk and not as bad as the moaners say. the staff are fine with english infact lovely. Just one other moan and thats the tv free channels are only german or spanish and although we spent all our time by the pool or sight seeing, late at night whilst our little man was asleep it would of been nice even if it was a news channel to have a english speaking channel avaliable and at 20 euros a week for the tv it just wasnt worth it as we only were in our room first thing and last thing. house keepers did a stunning job. And kids entertainment the ususal hol stuff, our little boy loved it, so huge thanks to Ben (the brit), David, Alex and Lourdes cant thank you enough for making our little boys first holiday a special one. All in all we would def stay there again without a doubt, shame to be home, Thank you all at Interpalace wonderful holiday.

Room Tip: we had 603 fab room, noisier this side being road side of the hotel, but thats only due to coaches p...

We came to the hotel by chance as the original hotel we 'won' on Purely Creative scratch card was a bogus one and were pleasantly surprised.
Although the building looked old fashioned, the rooms were clean and spacious. The pool area was nicely designed and you can use facilities of 2 other hotels, which gives you 4 outdoor pools, indoor pool with sauna, a gym and a spa to use.
Food was good with plenty of local dishes, including fish; desserts were a bit limited.
Good choice of entertainment. The majority of the guests were older Spanish families, who were quite cultured and friendly.
Staff was friendly. Overall, good impression.
