“Not 4* anymore, by today's standards”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 21, 2013

This hotel is like the "curates egg" good in parts.

Pros first.
Terrific location in centre of resort overlooking the lido & ocean.
Helpful friendly staff
Lovely gardens & pool
We had nice, north facing, balcony room on 11th floor - we prefer the cooler side
Regular changes of sheets & towels etc.
Lots of choice at breakfast - bacon could be better, though.
Lunch & Dinner - all food nicely presented. Great salad bar (see below for hot). Omelette bar offered at all meals

Cons.
Very poor first impression - atrium windows very dirty. Noisy street vendors on hotel property at the front. Foyer & bar area grubby - needs fresh paint or a good scrub, including the furniture (this shouldn't need pointing out).
Dining room - lots of choices, often not hot enough and lacking taste. The less is more principal should be applied in the kitchen - fewer choices better prepared & seasoned.
Bar service intermittent

On the whole we liked this hotel and might go back, as the location is unbeatable.

Room Tip: Ask for a" twin room with balcony". Sea/ocean view usually cooler as facing north.

The hotel is superbly located in the middle of everything. This comes with a little price of hearing the street action even from higher floors, but still worth it. Parking a car nearby is also a big problem (if you have one) - there are parking areas a bit further. We had a high room and the view was unforgettable, seeing the promenade and beach on one side, and the town and the giant mountain on the other side.

The service was pretty good. They helped us phoning local tourist attractions, and even restarted the WiFi router when we asked. There is free WiFi in the lobby, but no WiFi upstairs.

The bad thing seemed to be the building maintenance. The sink and bidet were slightly cracked, the toilet didn't flush well, the bed squeaked with every movement, and the windows made noises when it was windy one night. The elevators were slow, and in the last day 2 of the 3 elevators were out of order for a while, which created a queue with up to 10 minute waiting... Not to confuse all this with cleanliness, which was fine.

The food was good. The dining room functions as a rich buffet in the morning and evening (we didn't have lunch there).

Just returned from another great three weeks at the hotel Catalonia Las Vegas. some new staff
in reception this year who were very polite and efficient at their job. It was nice to see our friend Ciro the manager in the restaurant and also some new staff who were also friendly and efficient
The food at breakfast and evening meal just as good as always, with a change each evening with
the delicacy from different countries. The rooms have been refurbished and new televisions in
them and the maid kept them spotless. We have been coming to Puerto de la Cruz on and off
for about thirty five years stopped in various Hotels but stopped here the last six times and its the best. We have never been here for the Carnival which is feb/march unable to come 2014 but
will defiantly be booking our next holiday at the Catalonia las vegas for 2015 when we find out dates for carnival. (Always great value for money).

Had a great 10 day holiday there last week. The hotel is in an excellent location, and has lots going for it. First, the bedroom. Good sized, kept immaculately, and generally in good order. Honestly, it was well up to standard.

Public areas - the lobby and lobby bar were really up together. The gardens and area around the pool were beautifully kept. The plantings were beautiful and in the best possible shape.

Prices in the hotel for drinks and so on? MORE than acceptable. No rip offs here.

Staff? Could not be faulted. Welcoming, helpful, and smiling. If you have even two words of Spanish - like Hola or Adios, it really oils the wheels. Come on, if you are visiting Spain, learn just a couple of phrases - it makes such a difference.

Now then - what about the food? The folks do a great job in keeping it intenational, with a sufficient touch of Spain to make it interesting. Good cook to order too, at lunchtime and in the evening. The catering standard is high. The food is hot, the surroundings are clean, and the catering staff are very food hygiene aware. As the food safety guru for one of the UK's biggest supermarket chains (in a former life) I should know!

Entertainment - pretty good, I think. A really great Beatles tribute band, some superb african dancers. Fabulous.

And, it gets better. In the hotel complex, there is a beauty salon, run by a lady called Carmen.

Right. What is a guy writing about a beauty salon for? Well, she sorted out my sore feet, gave my wife the two best massages she has ever had in her life, and did all sorts of other girlie things that I don't understand. If you are ever fortunate enough to find yourself in this hotel, make a date with Carmen!

Downside? Not a lot. It is an old property, and could do with an external makeover. I have read other reviews of this hotel, and noted poor opinions of the lifts. Now, I dont know when these were written, but all I can say that is that they were modern (Schindler) and efficient.

Would I go back? Tomorrow!!!

Room Tip: The best rooms in the hotel are .......no dammit, I might want one!

Stayed here for a week at beginning of November.

Reception staff very polite and efficient; friendly too. check in and out was quick.

Rooms lovely and kept clean. View from our room on 7th floor was a beautiful sea view. Food varied, well cooked and presented; alll very nice. Staff mostly pleasant except the guy in charge in the restaurant who seemed a bit abrupt especially with some new staff; perhaps this should have been left until no guests were in earshot.

Location was perfect; especially for more elderly guests. (I did note that an elderly couple travelling with Thomsons were dropped off at another hotel at the top of the town.... pity them with a very long walk (steep hill) to the town front).

Lots of varied restaurants with entertainment close by.

Lots of street hawkers but they dont really bother you. I wish I could say the same about the people touting for thier restarants business; they were a pain, and occasionally rude.

I found the car hire guy in the hotel a bit abrupt. I turned right outside the hotel and first right and found a car for 72 euros for 3 days which included insurance and 3 days private car parking just around the corner.

This hotel, like a lot of others these days, charge quite a lot to use the room safe. it was 28 euros for the week, but you did get 10 back at the end.

There was 3 lifts. The big one on the left seemed to creak a lot break down now and again.

The hotel was also great value for money.

There is a lovely waterpark (not the sort with big slides) a few minutes walk along the front.

Although it was central and our room overlooked the main footway through the town, we were never really disturbed by noise.

The little train to Loro Park is just around the corner from the hotel. This is a MUST SEE attraction. Dont miss the faboulous Penguin exhibition; it really blew me away.

Lovel walks both left and right along flat roads.paths.

All in all i would fully recomend this hotel.

Room Tip: Sea view seems a better bet than volcano view as the volcano is often shrouded in clouds.

We have just returned from a weeks stay in the Las Vegas hotel. After arriving at night I woke on the first morning thinking we were in some kind of storm, pulled back the curtains to the most breath taking view i have ever experienced. The waves were really rough constantly and crashing up over the coastline it was amazing, I did think this may result in the temperature feeling a little cool however was pleasantly surprised to be wrong. The temperatures were very high with a very slight breeze occassionally. The staff at the reception desk were amazingly helpful and polite and the cleaners were also very pleasant. A couple of the waiters seemed abrupt but this appeared to be their mannerism the others were lovely, polite and friendly.

The food was very good generally and the hotel is lovely and clean. This has been an amazing experience and we will be returning with family next year

Many thanks for the experience guys

Having stayed before at this hotel in Puerto as well as others many times, I was keen to see what the hotel now offered and what if anything had changed.
Firstly the location on the promenade just can't be beaten, as the location allows you to walk in any direction when you come out of the hotel. Secondly most of the area at the front is flat, and where there are steps, there are also alternative pathways for wheelchairs, pushchairs etc so getting around is not difficult, and if walking is a difficulty there are numerous taxis just outside the door.
It is about 5 years since we last stayed at the Las Vegas not a lot has changed, although there has been maintenance to the pool, which was very clean.
Having read reviews before going on holiday to the hotel I was not sure what I would find but all was good, my only negative would be, not the quantity of food, but the selection, I feel it could have been a bit more adventurous although there were some theme nights. This comment must be taken in the context that we are not in the UK where a lot of hotels "cook" British food, whereas in Spain, they "cook" Spanish food and other varieties. It may not be to everyone's palate but it is always nice to try something a little different, there were no problems with it and I can't understand why some other reviews knock it.
I also noted that others stated a problem with connecting with wi-fi, let me say looking at the number of users when we stayed it was not a problem to connect in the reception area or the lower gardens, and it was possible to connect with two devices at once.
Rooms were cleaned daily and towels and bathroom consumables replaced.
It would be fair to say that most staff could improve from a "wee" bit of customer care training, as they nearly all seem quite glum, a fact I would put down to the present economic climate in Spain in general.
All in all Las Vegas in my opinion would rate at 3.7 out of 5.
Would I recommend it, Definitely.

Room Tip: Request a high floor, this gets away from some of the street noise, (although this was minimal).
