Christmas 2008 at the Botanico. 1st impression very good. But thats just it, it looks good. Underneath the surface - not up to scratch. Don't book half board. You are a captive audience. Whilst the food looks good its tasteless. I see a review now I'm back (too late) about a restaurant thats opened just across the road. It looked great. Sadly I never went in. Other reviews say the hotels worn, thats picky. We had an Ambassador Suite - brilliant. Except it overlooked the back of the hotel (sea view) and was plauged by dog barking from an adjacent villa (75metres away). Management did move us but it took the morning with some tension. They actually got the police round who solved the problem. Maybe I shouldnt have insisted on the move. Spa is fantastic. Nearly faultless - where's the drinking water? Why isnt there a juice bar - they could make money out of that? Restaurants look fantastic, so does the food but I've never been to any of the LHOW where they could ruin even the most simplest of dishes. Creme brulee like scrambled egg with no brulee. Plates in La Parilla served so hot the foods still (over)cooking on them. They need to "get back to basics" and cook simple good food. If you like your white wine cold, forget it. The bottle will go in an ice bucket with huge cubes and air. No contact between the cold and the bottle. Really good things: fresh roses in the room (a dozen appeared one day - was that the only one we didn't complain?), breakfast - omelette freshly cooked, turn down service (only better at the Ritz in London), suite quality (eg; 2 huge plasma's, dining table, comortable settee's), soaps etc in bathroom, and; THE BEST - atmosphere of relaxation with everyone wandering around in bathrobes down to the spa. Posh for dinner but during the day; no make-up, no hairdo's, no fancy clothes. Just realaxation.
You can spend the day next to a pool and have no screaming kids, no smoking, no mobiles, just like minded individuals enjoying the place. There is a pool for families thats fantastic, its the main pool. Mostly the familes there made sure the tranquility of the gardens around it and the hotel were not spoiled. Important as 50% of the rooms overlook it. If you go, look for a discount - any other Leading Hotel Of the World I've ever stayed in would deliver more "bang for your buck".

This was one of the best hotels I have ever experienced. The grounds are lovely, the staff are friendly and helpful. The beds are comfortable, the restaurants are excellent but the spa.... It was amazing, spotlessly clean, huge, wonderful facilities. You could easily spend your whole holiday there. Unusually, I would say that the hotel website does not do it justice. We went to several local bars and restaurants which are all within an easy walk. They were also excellent and less expensive than the hotel. The hotel aviary is part of the restaurant and it was great to eat breakfast watching the tropical birds weave their nests - I also liked the hotel herb garden. Gluten-free products were provided at breakfast without a special request, this was also a lovely surprise.

We have just returned form a week in this beautiful hotel and miss it already.
Our room was large and very comfortable, the breakfast buffet was one of the best I've ever seen and the Oriental Spa was amazing. We had a couple of dull days but we were happy to spend time in the spa, lazing on the loungers, water beds, jacuzzis and various other delights - even an ice room for the brave.
The staff were delightful and we very much enjoyed the opportunity to meet them and other guests at their generous cocktail party.
We thought the restaurants were quite expensive but we did spend an evening in Pappagallo's and thorougly enjoyed the food. Can't wait to go back.

Had a really wonderful week at this great hotel. We had a room on the 5th floor with sea view on one side and the mountains on the other. Our room had a great bathroom with double sinks , bath and separate shower. The room was cleaned twice a day. We found the staff pleasant and helpful. The Spa is the best we have ever been to with lots of great facilities. We had several treatments that were very reasonably priced . Breakfast was of a high quality with a very big choice. We found a truly great little restaurant a five miniute walk away called the Tucan which is family owned and run, the food was out of this world including Lemon Sole and other fresh fish, steaks and chicken , the ambience is very intimate . Loro Park is a very good day out and very well maintained. The weather was cloudy for 5 out of 6 days but it was warm.

Some of the other reviews seem at odds compared to our experience. We found it a very comfortable hotel. The room was clean & well presented, perhaps (we were on the first floor) our part of the hotel has already been redecorated. I didn't see any sign of dilapidation in the areas I went to. The service at dinner was mixed, in the Spanish restaurant it was dire, very slow, but in the Thai and the Italian themed restaurants we found we were served very quickly and efficiently. I wouldn't say the food was exactly five star, but it was perfectly acceptable and for breakfast there was a huge choice at the buffet.

The spa itself is great, clean with a good gym and aerobics room , with free thai tea and apples, although it could get quite crowded at times so an early-ish appearance on the sun loungers quite important. Overall there is a very relaxed atmosphere with beautiful fishponds on the way into the spa. A word of warning: spanish masseurs clearly beieve that a sports massage is a test of machismo & they are not for the fainthearted.

Our third visit to the Botanico over a period of 8 years. An immensely enjoyable stay. Yes the furnishings and carpets could do with replenishment and I understand this is currently underway but the building and gardens are immaculate with excellent service.

Wonderful restaurant opened in October 08 a few doors down from the hotel - La Esentzia, well worth a visit. Exquisite food served by people who clearly care about what they do. There is also the excellent Taberna Bacco just across the road which we have been visiting for the last two years - always lives up to expectations. No surprise then that the hotel restaurants look quite emply - they have a lot to live up to!

We have stayed here previously about 5 years ago, it was a very good 5 star hotel. but today alas times change and so has the botanico whilst the spa area is above average, the hotel is not,it's tired and jaded .Rooms are of a reasonable size but in need of decorating, carpets in the hallways/walkways are stained and worn . staff are soso one or two were very helpful. We had a meal in one of the al a carte restaurant and were served instant mash potatoes, when i complained the waiter argued with me that it was normal potatoes (his words) but you can tell by the taste/texture,he replaced them with boiled potatoes but by then my meal had gone cold and they would not cook another dish .not a happy diner. There are some very good restaurants around this hotel, the Tucan is one very good place to eat if you book and are willing to wait for your meal we waited best part of 2 hours for two courses.turn right directly out of the hotel and walk behind the putting green follow the road round to the righton to urb Jordan Toucan go down the hill and its on the corner next to the Dentist on Calle Sebastian Padron Acosta.70euros for two with wine.
Also worth visiting are the following Mil Sabores in Town on calla Verde.El Patio on Calle Del Lomo andthe Regulo on Calle san felipe. Need i say we will not be returning to the botanico vary disapointing. the spa area is very nice but the management do not enforce any of the rule they have made for this area ie no smoking ,no drinking alcahol and no eating . the last two i have no problem with but i have a severe chest condition and chose this hotel because of the no smoking area and found my self having to go up to my room to get away from the smoke and use my medication when i told the Duty Manager his reaction was so what.
