Review of Casa Iriarte

This is wehre the nava museum hide out. Don't be put off by the rather gruff ladies who run the shop downstairs. Give them the 1/12 euro or whatever the government has in place and wander at will upstairs. Don't be too alarmed either by the big gaps in the huge floodboards giving you a view of the rooms downstairs. They have been there a long time and are not likely to drop you through! Very eclectic little place and has a wonderful feeling about it. You are usually on your own to gaze at what is there. There isn't a lot, much must have gone to family and other places but one room is set up to show a naval battle. The whole place has seen better days but it used to be the family home and quite a few of them so remember that as you wander through the rooms which are set around a courtyard.

If you are looking for genuine Canarian needlework etc this is the place to come. There are many shops selling tablecoths etc., but these are the real McCoy. More expensive of course - but the workmanship is superb.

Having visited Peurto for the last 10 years and never been in this museum,I thoght iI would give it a go this year. Its not for people who cannot climb stairs, but, if you want to see old model ships and what Peurto looked like before tourism took over its the place for you. There are some great photos of old Peurto, showing dirt tracks where there are now busy streets and hotels. If you are into the history of where you holiday, its well worth spending a little time here.
