Tremendous views and history, tourist shop excellent and informative ! The walk down and the vistas were great , but the walk back up was harder ( put that down to my age ) .
All in all an enjoyable day out and looking at the history of this phenomenal village and how these local people lived is very interesting .

Masca canyon is definately the place to walk. Unfortunately there were too many tourists at same time. People were screaming, shouting etc. It was impossible to enjoy the nature around.
We walked down and enjoyed the rest on black beach.
After 16 we walked up. Fortunately all tourists were gone by boats. And it was lovely evening in order to walk up Masca. Sunset over quiet canyon, wonderful.
We made the walk 2008 (January).

Lovely landscape to drive through but not worth a long stop over. There are several spots (stay away from the crowded car parks) that are great photo stops but the village itself is not much to write home about. A coffee stop is enough and move to Los Gigantes for lunch with a view

On our holiday in Los Gigantes, we decided (as part of an effort to do something exciting or significant every day) to walk down the Masca Gorge. For those attempting this, you need to think about the timing of descending the gorge and then meeting the boat carrying you back to Los Gigantes. It takes about three hours to descend the gorge, the boats leaving hourly at 2:30, 3:30, 4:30 and 5:30. We elected to take the taxi at 11:00 am (outside Hotel Los Gigantes) for the 23 Euro ride up to Masca village. This journey takes about 40 minutes, the last 15 minutes of which are astounding in terms of the scenery with steeply-winding roads up and down. A short walk from the taxi leads to the start of the descent. You are starting at a whisker under 2000 feet and descending to sea level over a distance of about four miles. The twists and turns of the hike are mostly obvious but I would say that the yellow markers attached to the rocks indicating the route are placed where the route is obvious and where there is a possibility of taking the wrong route, yellow markers are missing. Having said that there are no dangers on the route, just observe the usual precautions of watching where you put each step. Where you have to scramble, make sure that you have three good hand/foot holds before you move a fourth as in rock climbing. I would say finally that the walk would suit fit 16-70 year-olds but would not suit the overweight or unfit. Take a picnic and especially the time to stop and look around. Remember, there are people getting drunk and sunburnt in Las Americas that will never know the joy of having walked the Masca Gorge.
By the way, you can do the day out in reverse. Boat to the Masca bay and walk up the gorge but why would you want to do that!
