“Day1/10 - arrival”
Reviewed December 24, 2013 via mobile

This is day one one from our 10 day family holiday in the 5* Gran Hotel Arrecife in Lanzarote. Its easy to find because its the tallest building around. At arrival you can park your car in front of the door to drop your luggage, but don't expect anyone to help you. ,(
The first receptionist (a girl from holland) was very nice with a smile on her face but than we handed over, which was a bit bizzare, but on general the next girl was very nice and helpful. But you get the impression that everybody is nott rained very well and there is a senior receptionist missing. Our rooms were not ready, our fault due to early arrival and we were able to deposit our luggage in a lockerroom. 3 hours later and after a nice tour around the island to get a first impression, we got our room keys. Again noone offering their help with the suitcases.

The first general impression was that the hotel had its best times and it would need some urgent improvements. Its not what you expect when you book THE Grand Hotel with 5* stars on the island.
We had booked a suite for the parents and a normal room for the kids. Before arrival we called and requested them to be next to each others and we are very greatful our request was taken seriously. The view from the rooms are very nice and the rooms are comfortable. Again you realize that some investment would be needed after the years, but its borderline. Happy to be able to open the windows on the 12th floor and give some fresh air and listen to the see breeze.
All in all fine for the first day but there is definetly more attention needed from the staff, and a couple of weird details, more of that in day 2/10 tomorrow.

stayed at the grand from the 9th to the 16th of December lovely hotel , staff all friendly and room clean and very spacious was upgraded to a suite. stayed half board and food was lovely but food was just warm not hot which was a shame as good variety of food. knowing most reviews say about the food not being hot would of made me think the hotel would of by done something about this .
lovely hotel if you looking for quiet relaxing hotel , however wouldn't like to stay there in summer due to most of the rooms having glass windows throughout and was very warm in dec despite the curtains being puled closed .bus service cheap and only 10 minutes walk from hotel. enjoyed everything about the hotel other than food not being hot just about made ward

This was our second stay at the hotel and on arrival we were upgraded to a suite and there was chilled bubbly waiting for us in our room.
The room was immaculate and since our last visit the hotel had made the welcome addition of large squares pillows on the beds so we got even better sleep than on our previous trip. Even when there were functions in the hotel our room was always quiet and noise was never an issue.
The room including bathroom was immaculately clean and the maids still a fab job every day even when we had carried sand in from the beach.
Breakfast was top notch, there was everything you could ask for and it was all fresh and as soon as juice etc ran out staff were on hand to refresh supplies.
The reception staff were extremely helpful and attentive despite the language barrier and even arranged motorbike hire for us.
From the moment we arrived we felt as though nothing was too much trouble and we will definitely return again.
The hotel is in an ideal location for the beach, the pool is covered if the weather isn't perfect and there are plenty of places to eat out simply and cheaply.
If you are looking for a tourist resort full of the typical holiday eateries then its maybe not the town for you but for us it was ideal and we found 3 places we loved eating at.
The option of half board is also on offer and from what I saw of the restaurant food you would not be disappointed if you selected this option.
Great for couples, not as much for families to do but for a relaxed break with the option of fab spa treatments I would highly recommend it.

Room Tip: We had a corner suite overlooking the harbour this year, last year we overlooked the beach, both sid...

There have been so many negative reviews about this hotel that we wanted to share our experience. We are currently half way through a two week stay here and we are extremely happy. The room is good with a lovely sea view, it is cleaned daily, has a comfortable bed, is quiet, has good WiFi and the bathroom is well appointed with ample toiletries, which are replenished. The food at breakfast and buffet supper is excellent. Huge selection for the discerning, which we are!! Chef cooking fresh fish/meat/eggs and large selection of fresh fruit and vegetables. The location is great, by a sandy beach which is cleaned each morning and lovely level walks both North and South. Parts of the prom and city show how Spain has been ravaged by the recession, but it does not detract from the beauty and history of the location. Most importantly the staff are excellent and have fulfilled our every wish. The spa and indoor pool area are good and we have always been able to get a lounger for relaxing on the deck, daily. N.B. We made sure that our accommodation voucher had 'sea view' clearly stated on it before leaving home. We were originally given a voucher which did not have it on, even though we had booked it.

I would not rate this a 5* hotel very disappointed. To start with our room a standard double was spacious but not clean on our arrival.Plenty of bits and dust swept into corners or all over the well marked laminate flooring. The bathroom wall on the hallway side had damp showing and the plaster and wallpaper were peeling off.For a supposed 5* grade we were disappointed not to have tea/coffee facility in the room, this had to be done by room service which came at a cost. Our room which we asked for a sea-view,we were given a room No1405 which in fact turned out to be better giving a view of the beach, sea,Arrecife town and in the distance the mountains.
Food in the restaurant was not a very good quality, tepid and when you got it your table it was basically cold.A bad mark was the noise annoyance from revellers from the Disco/pub attached to the hotel complex going on until 06.00am.I would rate this a 3*plus hotel and I am surprised the hotel has won a Trip Advisor certification.I did not like having to share a lift with the room maids and maintenance employees when enough time was spent waiting for a lift anyway.I felt they should have their own service lift.

Room Tip: Rooms on the front of the hotel from level6 upwards gives very good panoramic views

we had been looking for a nice hotel close to the sea with spa and wellness in a warm place away from tourist hot spots, on an island where you can make your own choice of how and where to spend your days and nights. lanzarote and arrecife gran hotel matched all of those criterias (so in case you're looking for a hot spot party place with your family and kids, arrecife is not the place to go)....

we had booked a "room with a view" and got an upgrade to the 16th floor. the room was about 25 square metres, with an excellent view, a cosy bathroom and sufficient space and facilities to relax. breakfast and dinner were included and both very recommendable as the range and choice of meals and drinks was utterly sufficient for us. the pool (to refresh only but enough for us), the nice sun terrace towards the sea, the spa area, the fitness gym were all well used and very useful for our relaxation purposes. we loved the star cocktail bar on the 17th as well as the pool bar on the 2nd floor but never went to the altamar restaurant (which was expensive and mostly empty). wi-fi was included and high speed on all hotel levels so all our requirements in terms of connectivity to the world when needed were met.

staff was very friendly all over the place, however, you would expect employees in a spanish place to speak spanish, so this was a funny surprise that some of them did not. given the low season, this was no issue at all, but i can imagine that in summer peak times this can be a challenge for both staff and spanish guests...

the few downsites (two beds on wheels, no fresh but machine made coffee, the multi-functional gym machine) are the reason why we cannot grant five stars. as a summary, arrecife gran hotel is such a nice place for peace- and sun-seeking europeans that we will defo be back next year as we haven't managed to see everything. we can highly recommend staying there as a single or a couple and even in a small group of adults.

We stayed here for a week as an anniversary treat. What a superb hotel, right on the beach. Great suite that was spotless throughout. The staff were extremely good and would do all they could for you. The food at breakfast had everything you could wish for, in fact my waistline will confirm there was probably far too much which was far too well presented :-)
The views from the rooms are magnificent and the sunsets are to die for. Do yourself a favour, if you get the chance, stay here and enjoy.
