I have called into The Anchor on a few occasions and the most lasting impression is the "'grumpy women" that lurk, sorry work there! The head honcho is an Essex girl by ve sahnd of fings and her sidekick is indeterminable as I have only heard grunts emitting from this person. On a lighter note the establishment is well presented and clean. Food is a bit hit and miss but what holiday makers want, also a bit overpriced for what it actually is. I recall a visit where a rather charming French lady of more mature years had eaten lasagne and a dessert all with no problem. She then ordered coffee which obviously was not to her liking as she did not finish it. After waiting for a while the lady decided to approach the bar to settle her bill as Grumpy and Very Grumpy were engrossed in deeo conversation and did not have the time to go to her. The lady asked what she owed and paid. Not once was she asked if everything was to her satisfaction. Being a resolute person she spoke in perfect english and gave a compliment on the lasagne and dessert, then added that she had found the coffee dissappointing, she even handed over a tip. The fixed grimaces did not once leave the faces of our intrepid duo until after Madamoiselle had left the establishment and went merrily on her way. To this day I still hear the dulcet Dagenham tones, "bleedin foreigners don't know nuffink abaht coffee"
