Absolutely stunning location - even the very limited car park is in a breathtaking spot.
It is high level scenery with native Canary Pines and huge mountainous peaks. It is a walkers wonderland - but not one to be underestimated as distances are long, and "escape routes" down few.
We did notice that there was a real restriction of the number of cars permitted, and that taxis were substituted ( from Los Almos and Los Llandos de Aridane).
Staggeringly beautiful in the sunshine- potentially hazardous in poor weather.

Thoroughly enjoyed the walk up to cascada de los colores. From car park allow 2 hours to walk up, if following river bed, allowing time for photos. Lots of climbing over boulders required. walking boots essential. 1.5hours to walk back. Loved it, beautiful place to visit!

This is a walkers paradise, various walks for different abilities. The visitors centre is terrific , the staff are extremely helpful and happy to give advice.
The gardens are good for seeing the variety of plants and a very easy stroll round. The displays, models and information are particularly useful for visitors with limited mobility.

The caldera is renowned for having clouds descend on it in the very early afternoon so it is wise to get up there early. To drive up from the visitor centre you need to book a 'slot' so you need to be really sure of the weather otherwise you could be disappointed an out of pocket. We took a taxi up from the visitor centre (8 euros for the 2 of us) which enabled us to go on the spur of the moment. We were just able to to do a walk around a couple of the miradors (~ 1 hour) before the cloud descended at 1230. Just time enough to get feel for the size and grandeur of the place. We walked back down but it isn't that interesting and you could take a taxi instead. well worth spending time in the visitor centre - which has really excellent interpretation.

We were in La Palma for a day on a cruise stopover. We took a bus from the centre of town to the vsitor centre 2.10 euros each way and then a taxi up to the Caldera car park(9 euros each way). Once there you have a choice of walking trails, some of which are short and relatively easy and others which are longer and more challenging. The environment and the scenery are simply stunning and photographs fo not rell do it justice. If you love the great outdoors, do not miss this experience.
