El Hierro is not the liveliest place on the planet, but it is beautiful and the people are incredibly friendly, like something from another age! That includes the couple who run the hotel who I found incredibly helpful phoning the local bus company out of hours to try and help me get to the other end of the island the morning after my arrival.
The room was well furnished and impeccably clean. The only thing I thought lacking was a fridge. This was my last stop after walking all seven Canary Island and it would have been nice to arrive back to a chilled bottle of wine. It wasn't a deal breaker though I settled for red!
I can imagine as another reviewer said that it might be quite cold at times without heating, but I was very comfortable.
It's only a couple of minutes walk to the main street, but don't expect to find much there. I couldn't even get a decent meal on a Saturday night. But if you like unspoiled nature, friendly people, and want to chill out away from over developed tourism I can't think of many better places to do that than El Hierro!More
