A satnav can be helpful for getting here. It is marked as a place of interest on Garmin satnavs, so that makes it easy to find.

Otherwise you follow either the brown tourist signposts to Bandama - and it must be said that Gran-Can is pretty good on signs - or just follow the tourist buses. This at least will ensure that even if your route is round-about, you won't get stuck in a tiny narrow street.

On the way there, there were other craters, so we kept thinking that we had arrived. But then when we got to the actual one, we realized just how puny the others were. This is big, very big, very impressive.

But once you've looked at it a bit, unless you feel strong enough to walk down (and back up again . . .), there's not a lot to do, so make it a stop en route to somewhere else rather than a whole visit in its own right.

.

In the top ten attractions of the Gran Canary Island is the Caldera de Bandama one. For us a reason to go there. First we did the mirador (top view point) de Bandama. We had a beautiful view over Las Pasmas / Telde and the area. After that we started our walk down. It was very slippery a lot of little gravel on the path. So be carefull. Realizing to be on the bottom of a crater is a quite scary idear. The way up was also diffucult, it was very steep (1250 meters long 200 meters up). So if you start know what you do. Al in all it was a very nice walk.

Although the drive towards this place is a driver challenge, it is worth it. We hiked into the crater and walked around it, very beautifull. You need to wear good hiking shoes if you want to go down and up.

The view is outstanding but it does take a while to get there. If you are on a limited time budget, you need to think this out carefully
