Hostal Alcaravaneras
Reviewed April 25, 2013 via mobile

All in all, it was ok. Good price and clean common bathroom. Good position but at night it can be pretty noisy. You can easily reach the Playa de las Canteras and the Parque Santa Catalina. On the fourth floor, there is a small common kitchen which is unfortunately not fully equipped.

Due to a delayed flight, I had to find accomodation late and quickly. Through Internet I found this place, that seemed to fit my immediate needs. However, I checked out as soon as possible in the morning, with the hope never to have to return. The bed I got was awful, the room not very clean, and the other guests noisy.

I realize that I may have got a room that was the very last one they would give away, a room that maybe wasn't cleaned yet, or - maybe - a room that the night staff usually used? I realize that it may seem unfair to judge the whole hostel from a short night's experience. But still, if so, they could have reduced the already low price further, and I would have been a lot more understanding.

I did not consider this neighborhood that bad, and still I do not, since I'd two times before stayed at the Hostal Falow, just one block away: Even less expensive, quiet and much tidier.

Room Tip: Unless you're into boozing all night, find another hostel.

I stayed there for one week in March 2011. That`s true, that they give key from main door and reception doesn`t wokr all the time. Room was ok. Clean. But i don`t know about other rooms. The hostal is about 15 min walk from main beach.

I Stayed in this Hostal only one night and everything was quite ok besides me getting a bed bugs bites from that one night. That ruined my whole trip! Not sure how clean this hostal must be. Also there is only one shower on the floor with about 4 rooms or more.

Gracias por su opinión. En cuanto al tema de los chinches, los trajo consigo otro huésped y desde que tuvimos conocimiento de ello llamamos a una empresa para que fumigara todo el Hostal y se eliminó el problema.

I had a confirmed booking and prepaid part of it via Hostelworld. The reception was closed and remained so during my waiting of 3 hours. Locals told me that this happened moreoften: the hostal overbooks, gives every guest a key of the frontdoor and then close the reception.
Hostelworld did not react to my complaint and claim.

Room Tip: Avoid this hostel

Stayed in February-2011 for 1 week.

"+": price (19/night), closeness to the centre (ca 10 min walk from a rather safe area, I'd say), small but personal room, clean shared bathroom, WC and kitchen, very kind staff.

"-": noise from the streets as the road's just near by. Don't remember if there was blanket in the room or not, but by nights I started freezing so had to ask for an extra sheet.Wi fi was by reception only, but PC was possible to use.

Overall, I think it's a place worth trying for small budget tourists. In comparison to quite some other hostels, this one has a certain advantage of privacy, also considering the fact that there are oly 28 rooms in total.

Thanks for your opinion. Yes all rooms have blanket ( and like in your case if you need another we give it you ). There is wifi in all the Hostel so probably when you was here there was a problem with it.

I've been there for a week, my room had the bathroom inside. The hostal is quite clean, and it has was is necessary: a bed, an armchair and a bathroom. Most of the rooms are without bathroom, but if you can choose for having the bathroom in you room is better otherwose you have to share it with all the flloor. Rooms are clean. The location is good, it's a safe place, there are many shops close to the hostal and it's 20 minutes by walking to go the the seaside (playa de las canteras). There is the sea also behind the hostal, but it's full of boats so you can go there, but just for walking, not for smigging in the ocean. Close to the hostal there is the local market of Las Palmas, full of fresh and cheap food (just in case, there is a kitchen on the top floor of the hostal but ive never used and seen it because i was put of time). There is a bus stop close to the hotel that is usefull to go the old town. So finally, the hostal it's a cheap solution and quite good for the rooms and the location. I mean, you pay at around 20 euros per day and you have a decent play to stay, nothing special, but fine. The reception is quite ok.
