AC Hotel Gran Canaria
Reviewed March 21, 2014

Me and my wife are just home after a week in Las Palmas staying at the AC hotel.
We had room on the 13th floor with a fantastic view of the harbour and the Santa Catalina park.
The room was big enough for the two of us even if we had quite a lot of luggage. It was nicely furnished and very clean. The bed was a little too hard for me. The bathroom had a bathtub.
It took about 2 or 3 minutes to get hot water, so start tapping the water before taking your clothes off.
The ac worked perfectly with almost no noise.
We could not hear any noise from the street. In fact the room was very quiet.
We used the pool area on the roof top every day. There were always vacant sunbeds. The pool area was an ideal place to relax as it was sheltered from the cold winds that blew the hole week. The pool area also has a small poolbar.
The hotel is located right next to the Santa Catalina park with all its restaurants. There are plenty of shopping possibillities nearby. The Los Cantera beach is about 300 meters away.
The breakfast buffet was average, but the breafast restaurant on th 23rd floor has the best view you can get in Las Palmas.

This hotel is in a perfect location. The suite was wonderful with a fantastic view from the 20th floor. But the catering service left a lot to be desired. If you want a cup of coffee you have to go to the 23rd floor -the dining room (and hope you will be served). Breakfast was just a joke. All self service even to cleaning a table and looking for a cup for your coffee. Staff in this dept. need a lot of attention. No kettle in the bed room (and none available in the hotel). Bar never open on the ground floor. The bedroom staff were more than pleasant. The roof pool was a delight. This is a 4* hotel but the facilities are the worst I have ever experienced.

Room Tip: WIFI available for free on the ground floor or the pool area. All bedrooms €1.00 per hour

Thank you for choosing AC Hotel Gran Canaria by Marriott for your recent stay in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
We are pleased that the room with the views and the staff have been to his liking.
We will consider comments made about breakfast effort to improve service.
Regarding the kettle we confirm that the hotel has several, but it must be that at that time there were none available.

Thanks again, and we hope you'll choose AC Hotel Gran Canaria by Marriott the next time you're in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Yours sincerely,

Event Sales

We spent one night here before boarding a cruise ship. Although the rooms are on the small side, they are newly refurbished and clean. We had a room on the 22nd floor with a lovely view over the beach and as far as Teneriffa.

Stay away from the breakfast buffet unless it is included in your room price - it is definitely not worth your money. You are definitely better off going to once of the caffés closeby.

Room Tip: The higher up the nicer your view.

It's always interesting to stay as a holiday guest in a "business focused" hotel and this is what happened here. When arriving, we were welcomed by a womit sprayed over the wall and ground at the (very strangely placed) lift from street to reception. Having climbed the (rather steep) stairs to reception instead of using the lift we were not really welcomed at all. Careface attitude and not a single smile.
Rooms are probably adequate for travelling alone and with overnight luggage, but far too small for holiday packing and two residents. Quite hard to sleep in as the maids moving about beds and people walking on the floor above sounds a lot. Our beds were standing on little wheels that made very strange noices every time you moved in the bed. Wifi is free only in lounge and restaurant. In rooms you have to pay, but it works ok-ish.
The pool area at the roof was a fairly annoying story: Only a few sun chairs are hit by the sun in the afternoon, and despite staff in attendance, there was no interest in the fact that some "towel draper guests" did their trick in the morning and expected their fellow guests to freeze in the shadows while they were shopping.
Breakfast staff were the positive exception in this hotel - thanks for notocong us, guys. Breakfast itself was below average with poor bread, low quality coffee, horrible scrambles and no bacon.
Overall, cleaning was good, but the room needed a total re-make.

Room Tip: Some rooms on lower floors have depressing views. From floor 12 and above you are ok.

We spent two nights at this hotel during the carnival in Las Palmas and it was noisy outside in the corridors at night and morning. It is very much noise when someone closes the door again its adjacent rooms and other rooms nearby. Whether it was carnival during our visit or not, the noise from the corridor very disturbing, also in the morning. Check in : receptionist spent a very long time on check in, I have never experienced such. We had booked two rooms with a connecting door but unfortunately we did not . The hotel had hardly realized that we had booked two rooms, even though we booked through booking.com. Parking : The hotel has no private parking so there are additional costs for parking in the parking garage. Breakfast : The breakfast is very simple with only scrambled eggs and tortillas as hot dish, no choice of coffee and little staff to serve customers during breakfast . They can not make tidying and cleaning tables between guests. Wi-Fi: The hotel has free wifi only in the lobby , for wifi in the hotel room you must pay 12 eur per day. Room: The room is large and has nice standard, wooden floor and the room had a large balcony. In the bathroom there was a bathtub. Air conditioning was very effective, but noisy. The maid did good cleaning daily and she was very polite. The towel quality is very nice. We did not use gym and pool area but the stairways did not look good on the high floors where the gym/pool area is situated.

The hotel has a very nice location, both in terms of shopping and going to the beach, it takes maybe 5 minutes.
Next time I go to las palmas I'll definitely book another hotel. Especially because of the noisy from the corridors.

Room Tip: Maybe in the end of a corridor...........

Dear guest,

Thank you very much for your feedback and I apologize that you could not sleep well because we are celebrating our famous carnival in these weeks.

We can read the comments in your reservation that you wanted two conecting rooms or two rooms on the same floor and the recepcionist offered to you two rooms on the same floor because the conecting rooms were occupied.
I apologize that the recepcionist spent a very long time on check in but you commented that the both reservations were under the same name and the recepcionist did not find them because finally they were with diferents names.

We hope to see you soon and sorry for the inconveniences.

We spent two nights here and had a nice room on the 17th floor with great views across the port and harbour. Rooms are clean and a decent size but the breakfast was disappointing with a very unimaginative buffet and awful coffee.
The hotel is an absolute eyesore from outside but all the common areas are nice and we found the staff friendly and helpful. its well situated to the beach with its plethora of restaurants and bars and handy for the City tour bus which stops a few hundred yards away

We found that this hotel was good value and functional. It is well placed for holiday makers with the beach only a few minutes walk away and plenty of bars and restaurants. The rooftop pool is amazing but could be improved by covering up the guts of the hotels air conditioning units which are on the roof of the floor below and visible from the pool area.
The restaurant is another great opportunity and much more could be done with it given it's fantastic location on the 23rd floor.

No safes in the room but there are free safety deposit boxes in reception. The carpets in the lobby of my floor were stained with what looked like water damage and I don't understand why they haven't been replaced because the rooms themselves are not bad at all.

I would recommend this hotel but it but it could be much better with a few small tweaks.
