“We'd love to return..”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 14, 2014

The situation of the Reina Isabel is ideal, just opposite the beach with its own area of sunbeds and within easy walking distance of a range of buses. The public rooms are spacious and elegant, with impressive floral displays reminiscent of five star hotels.

Our room was facing the sea with a good sized balcony. It was adequately furnished, with plenty of hanging space and a very modern TV. Our only quibble was the fact that due to inclement weather, it was rather cold and the heating didn't seem to function.

Our deal included breakfast which was an excellent, varied buffet: you couldn't have wished for more. We had the buffet dinner on a few occasions, and at 21 euros this was excellent value. We dined once in the top floor à la carte restaurant which had a great view, but whilst the service was superb, we found it rather expensive (11 euros for an unimpressice salad starter) and the cuisine nothing to write home about. On the other hand, the top floor bar was very good value.

All the staff were very efficient and friendly. Particular praise must go to Vanessa in the dining room.

We didn't make use of the Spa this time, but that's something we shall look forward to, as we shall definitely return.

First impressions were certainly under-whelming, a rather dull room with woodchip wallpaper pained in a what-the-baby-brought-back colour; but it was a room with a view - over a car park and noisy road. However, from then on it was uphill all the way. The air conditioning was efficiently working in the background without the usual annoying racket, and double doors certainly kept the sound out. And someone has to get the short straw. With the beach on side, protected by the Barra, and the city the other, it has an amazing position. Staff were at all times really friendly and helpful. After three days the weather went seriously downhill, really horrid rain and worse winds, but the spa was our salvation, an incredible facility available to all guests of the hotel, and in itself a sound reason for making a return visit. Food brilliant, rooftop pool good, and excellent free wifi throughout the hotel. Yes the decoration is a bit tired, but taken overall a lovely place to spend a week of the English winter.

Room Tip: A room with a sea view would really make it.

We decided to visit Las Palmas after calling in there on a cruise ship. After wandering around we found our way to the promenade which we loved. We decided to have a holiday there this year and, after consulting Trip Advisor, booked at the Reina Isobel with Jet2.com. We took other peoples' advice and booked a sea view which was money well spent - we had a wonderful view of the entire bay. The hotel is very comfortable with lovely seating areas and direct access to the promenade. The bathroom was a bit dated but still very good with lots of "freebies" for the guests. We were spoilt for choice in the breakfast room but decided to eat our evening meals out. We also had several lunches at the poolside restaurant which were nicely presented and very good value for money. The end of February is a good time to visit as there was a carnival taking place which included the most spectacular parades through the streets and performances on a specially constructed stage. We went on two trips around the island which were very enjoyable as we didn't realise what lush, green island it is. A great place to visit.

Room Tip: A sea view room, the higher the better.

Have stayed before but not since the spa had been added. This was wonderful. All free to gruests. So many treatments to try out. The hotel had work going on next door which we didn´t know about, but it did´n´t interfear with our stay. The food was as good as before, with plenty of choice.Staff all very helpful. No mirror in the bedroom, only in the hall, but the bedroom was spacious, beds comfortable. Plenty lighting in the bathroom. Across the road is the beach and the guests can use the beach for free, including beds and umbrellas. The prom is nice for a walk, a large shopping centre is about 30 mins away and worth a visit. The Summan restaurant which is on the top floor has been renovated and worth a visit, lovely but expensive. We were on HB, but you didn´t get an allowance from Saga for the dinner you missed in the restaurant. Some evenings there was music on the top floor. Also up there is the swimming pool. Plenty going on, as it was carnival time whilst we were there. Easy to get buses around the island too.

Room Tip: Choose the middle of the hotel

I loved this grand old hotel with its fabulous position on the best beach in the Canaries; but it is living on borrowed time & there is the Christina. It has not been renovated since 1998 & it really does show; the recent Valentine's Day storm exposed the terrace, balconies & windows facing the sea need to be flood protected by a slope & insulation respectively. I did not agree however with the recent review which was critical of the staff. I asked them questions & made requests of numerous kinds & at different times of day & they were very polite, friendly & responsive. However the dining room on the ground floor badly needs redesigning & the buffet limited or restricted; it takes up too much space, so that guests have to queue for dinner & breakfast & no lunch is provided; all quite unacceptable in this day & age & it is very wasteful of staff. It is time for a la carte & table d'hote to rule in a hotel of this pretensions to quality. Worse still clients on half board get no discount at the a la carte restaurant; I have never heard of that before or found it any where else. There is still no indoor pool, which is a problem, when there is bad weather, as there was Valentine's weekend & the spa is a bit gimmicky and the jets in the outdoor swimming pool a complete & total nuisance. With the exception of the a la carte restaurant, I am inclined to agree with Choosy7 it is still great value for money: the buffet food was good, but could have been excellent, if served promptly by a waiter. The Imperial Playa has no swimming pool by the way. Time is running out Bull Hotels you need to spend money here.

Room Tip: Facing the sea is best except in a storm; fourth floor has the largest rooms with the largest balcon...

Feel good factor for us was very high because just about everything was free of charge - wifi (including 3 Imacs) sun beds, beach towels and amazing state-of-the-art spa and gym - and what you had to pay for (dressing gowns, house wine, water, drinks in the bar, phone calls abroad) were inexpensive. Staff were all cheerful and helpful, and clearly the management know how to make guests feel spoilt - little touches like Valentines Day drinks and roses, large flat screen TV in the room, plenty of variety in the food. Location very good. Our room - 502 - faced the back street and was a bit tired but well equipped.
Top floor swimming pool and bar well designed, as is the modern spa and adjoining gym. Elegant public rooms leading onto the beach. We were very satisfied with our one week stay here.

I stayed at this lovely hotel for eleven days all alone and visiting my husband daily at the Negrin Hospital in Las Palmas. He had been rushed there after a heart attack when we were evacuated from the NCL cruise Spirit on October 31st 2013. The staff and reception went out of their way to make me welcome especially the Saga rep Karen who looked after me over and above her call of duty. The lovely young waitress Fiorello greeted me with a warm welcome each day which meant a lot at a very troubling time. I had a city view room with balcony and hot sunshine every day.Everything was spotlessly clean and the bedding changed almost daily.Food in the dining room was first class and varied . I hope we will both return under happier circumstances. A very big Thank You to you all.

Room Tip: The city view is good and even though there is traffic in and out down below, the double doors to th...
