“Amazing colonial style place as old as Las Palmas itself”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 2, 2012

As soon as your taxi stops at the hotel doors you realize that this part of the island has been build around Santa Catalina. The hotel was opened in the end of 19th century and for a long time attracted wealthy Europeans coming to Canarias for exotic tropical experience. Surrounded by the small but incredibly pleasant park Santa Catalina is a perfect place to relax after a long day listening to birds singing in the trees. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The service is outstanding. Breakfast is served in the inner patio and includes everything a traveller can think about. Don't miss the open-air night club less than 5 min away from the hotel, this one is apparently one of the best in the town. Also, don't forget to walk up the hill right next to hotel (you'll see a big cross on top of it) to enjoy night view of the island.

Room Tip: The best rooms are with balconies and garden view.

I had to spend two nights and a day in Las Palmas on business and my client booked the hotel for me. I wondered what I would get but was very pleasantly surprised by Santa Catalina. The approach through the little park with statues is charming, as is the rest of the park on the hill behind the hotel. In fact 'charming' was the key word for my stay there. The staff were polite and helpful; and as others have noted the breakfast was sumptuous.
Sitting in the open air bar at the end of the day with a G&T and the piano player tinkling away... perfect!
On the downside, the hotel isn't cheap, but you get what you pay for.

A two night stay with my husband and 9 year old daughter. Junior suite with king bed offered enough space with a single cot for my daughter. Sitting area gave up plenty of space. Bed was very comfortable and the shower was perfect. Highlight was breakfast. Lovely area with with a wonderful selection of meat, cheese, hot buffet, fresh juice and of couse champaign. Enjoyed walking around the area of the hotel. Park infront of the hotel was a great place to take pictures. Free parking was a plus. Internet was in and out. You need to log on several times durning they day. Staff was helpful as I don't speak Spanish.

The hotel is an old-style vintage flavour five star hotel who has lost some of its old splendour. For a great price you get big rooms in a nicely located hotel for business or leisure time. The bed's mattresses could be a lot better, they clearly need an update. The Hotel Staff is very nice and take care of the guests. But the absolutely best of this Hotel is the team of treatments specialists at the SPA. They are probably the best team you can find in SPAIN, not only las Palmas. Not the typical hotel massagists, true experts. If you just want a relaxing soft massage, you will miss the best you can get from this place. Ruyman, Nelson and Ciara are all excellent therapist. I had a lot of muscular pain due to excessive walking and standing, full of tensions and body stress. This was fixed in 2 days. And the prices are very affordable, 40 Euros for 45 minutes! Do not miss some time at the SPA!!

Room Tip: Any double, garden view. The single rooms are small

On holiday at the Riu Vistamar in Puerto Rico for 14 days, however during our stay we were to attend a wedding in Arucas Cathedral, with the reception in The Nautical Club in Las palmas. Prior to booking on line, we asked several members of staff at the Vistamar to recommend a good hotel in Las Palmas within a reasonable distance of the venue. 3 out of 4 suggested The Santa Catalina. Some reviews say that the hotel is "old fashioned" well believe it or not, this English Colonial style hotel was built almost 125 years ago and retains some of the original features, and rightly so. Only stayed 2 nights bed and breakfast, but could happily have stayed longer. Set in tropical gardens, and only a short walk to the Las Canteras beach, In my opinion the hotel was well located, to me that means no bars or clubs or supermarkets on the doorstep. A regular bus service can have you at attraction areas Breakfast was served from 06:00 - 11:00 and was by far the best breakfast I have ever had. Our suite was of a good size and lead to our balcony which was directly above the porte cochere with views out over the gardens and Atlantic beyond. Would I stay there again. Yes, would love to.

Room Tip: Cannot remember the room number , but it was directly above the main entrance.

Stayed here in April 2012 as part of a fabulous city break to Las Palmas. Location of hotel is conveniently half way between old town (20 minute walk) and Las Cantaras beach, (5 minutes in taxi) whcih is ideal, and a taxi to either place is only a few euros.

The hotel is stunningly presented, even down to the red carpet at the front door. Staff are lovely and we always found them to be very helpful.

The rooms were furnished in a very traditional, colonial style which will not be to everybody's taste, however the beds are without doubt the most comfortable I have ever experienced in a hotel. Single rooms do not have a balcony, and this was very disappointing, especially as it had not been highlighted prior to booking. There were however nice touches like the bathrobes and slippers, and the turndown service each night.

The hotel gym was absolutely first class, I have never experienced a gym of this standard in a hotel. The pool area was also lovely, and apart from on a public holiday we never had any issue getting a sunlounger.

When going out to dinner at night, try the old town which is fabulous. The marina is a short walk away, and has some places to eat there, although I preferred the old town.

There are many aspects of the hotel which are clearly 5 star such as the presentation, staff and general attention to detail, however I do not believe it merits the price charged, and the lack of balconies in some rooms was disappointing.

Room Tip: Don't get a single room if you want a balcony. Junior suites are lovely. Rooms to the front of t...

Well, my wife and I have just got back from this hotel, these are my comments;
on arriving the place certainly looks grand, just as I expected.
We checked in and went to the room, nice size room with a traditional style balcony with views over the sweet scented garden.
The hotel is very grand, but on closer inspection it is starting to show its age.
What I was surprised about was no irons available (security risk), we where pointed in the direction of there ironing service @ several euros per item, no good at 5 pm, we spent the next 2 hours trying to buy a travel iron.
Location, nice set in lovely gardens, but unless you want to eat at the hotel not that many restaurants on the door step. We ate at its restaurant just the once, service ok, food a bit bland, did not get what we ordered so had to wait while it was sorted out, very overpriced for what was served, we ended up finding several very nice places just a short drive away, Bar restaurant Hnos Rogelio @ c/Valencia, Gambrinus de Triana @ c/travieso and La Oliva @ la puntilla playa de las canteras.
At La Oliva had my best Cafe Barraquito only 1.50e and my worst was at the hotel, even worst it was 6e.
Staff where friendly and helpful breakfast was really good and met some nice people.
Would we go again, NO, we will look for a hotel in the Playa de Las Canteras area, lovely beaches and plenty of restaurants to try. Out of 10 only 4.
Bus links good, the Bono card is 7.50e for 10 rides, recommend using the RED open top bus and stay on for the whole trip, this way you get to see the area then decide where you want to go, then just hop on or off as you please.

Room Tip: A room overlooking the park.
