Sacred to the Guanches, the short hike to Roque Nublo is unmissable. As you approach the rocks, you can imagine the aboriginal inhabitants of Gran Canaria experiencing a similar sense of awe in the vicinity of this naturally occurring Canarian Stonehenge.

“Amazing view”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 23, 2013

We drove up to the parking lot near Roque Nublo with a rental car. The roads in the mountains are in excellent condition, and there wasn't too much traffic so the drive was not stressful at all. From the parking lot, it's about a half hour walk to the plateau on which the Roque Nublo sits. The views from the plateau are absolutely breathtaking: being high above the clouds makes you feel like you're on top of the world. In the distance we could even see El Teide (a volcano on Tenerife, another one of the Canary islands).
I'd recommend bringing a sweater, comfortable shoes and a bottle of water for the walk. We were there in November and though the weather was pleasantly warm near the seaside, it was much cooler up on the plateau.

“Just wow”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 13, 2013

the ride up the mountain in the car scared the hell out of me, im not too good with heights and the sheer drops in some places is quite scary. When you get up there however the view is breath-taking. From the car park it looks like a little stone in the distance but when you actually get there it is huge.
It is a hike and takes about an hour there and back

“Worth the drive.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 11, 2013

Much of Gran Canaria had been de-forested to provide timber for building, but around Roque Nublo replanting has been undertaken over the last few decades, making this a really pleasant walk. It's cooler than at the coast, but even in November a pleasant 16C on the day we visited. Try to choose a clear day for the views, including the main peak of Teneriffe in the distance.

We were told by the guide that brought us that we were very lucky as the day was so clear. We felt like we were at the top of the world. Breathtaking.
