Visited La Gomera on a days coach trip from Tenerife via the Fred Olson ferry.
We loved the trip in the mountains and national park. The mountains are spectacular and the sheer drops from the roadside, breath taking. We were given a very interesting talk throughout the trip by our coach guide. Would suggest that the trip would not be suitable for young children. Stopped at a restaurant for lunch (which was up to the usual ethnic quality expected on a trip like this) and given a demonstration of the Gomarian whistling language (fascinating). The weather can be challenging on this island, but we were lucky and had sunshine all day.

The trip to the top of Garajonay is nice, not too heavy either. Its sad though that a lot of the forest was burned not that long ago, which means walking alot in charred remains. Looking at the time it takes to regrow, this will be so for a few years it seems. The trip to Hermigua was green, no fire damage there.

Don't go to the top of Garajonay if its cloudy, It needs to be clear to have a nice view.

Really worth the effort - even though the weather for us was appalling for the Canary Islands. We were down to 6.5C in the low cloud at one point! Still it is a lovely forest for walking. Quite challenging in places - which was good.

The occasional shafts of sunlight showed how lovely it would have been in better conditions. Not at all disappointed though, even so.

Several loops from El Cedro are good, as are the higher walks nearer to the Alto de Garajonay.

Lovely Natural Park. Lots of nice walks through the woods. Pretty flowers and lovely bird songs.
They have a nice café with plenty of indoor seating. There is a small exhibition of flora and fauna near the café. The temperature at the top of the mountains can be very cold. It is better to take a jacket. Lovely place if you like nature.
