This is a very nice, comfortable, low rise hotel in a convenient and quiet location about 15 minutes stroll from the town centre.

We booked direct on the hotel's website and asked for a junior suite on the upper floor with a sea (well, inlet) view. That is exactly what we got. The room (no 248) was spacious, with a large balcony and double glass doors leading on to it which meant that we had a panoramic view across the inlet and the room was very light (as far as we could tell, this was the only room with these double doors). There was a large walk in wardrobe/changing area, sofa, two chairs and a large bathroom with double sinks and a whirlpool bath.

The whole hotel was bright and airy, largely because the pool was at its centre and most rooms were accessed via a corridor which overlooked the pool.

The bar area was modern and pleasant. You could also sit and have a drink by the pool or at the front of the hotel. The restaurant was good with an excellent breakfast and evening buffet but, as others have said, it suffers badly from being in the basement floor with no natural light (hence few people seem to use it in the evening, preferring to visit the many excellent restaurants in town).

There were a lot of Spanish staying at the hotel while we were there, many of whom were there for a wedding at the cathedral in town. They seemed to be a pretty discerning bunch and the hotel clearly ticked all the right boxes for them.

The walk round the promenade from the hotel to the town via the port is a really nice way to pass 20 minutes but it's quicker if you go via the back streets.

We wanted a quiet break in the sun without necessarily having to sit on a beach and having access to a nice town with some historic archtecture. This hotel and the lovely town of Ciutadella gave us exactly that. We'd have no hesitation recommending anyone to go there but it's probably best for no more than a week as it is very quiet (we were there for 6 nights).

Just back from Menorca and stayed at Port Ciutadella for a week. We had a suite on first floor and loved the spacious walk-in wardrobe - a largish room actually and fine view of the creek across the road. The hotel is spotless and some might say a tad sterile - minimal furniture which is not to everyone's taste. The dining room is subterannean and is not the best place in the world to have a romantic meal! We had Bed and Breakfast and is fine for just that - the breakfasts are excellent with a good range of the usual things plus a few Spanish or Menorcan specialities cheeses etc. Eggs how you want them, juices, various breads and even Cava! The spa costs 5 Euro which I think should be free for hotel guests. Management take note! Had an excellent massage for 50 Euro. Smimming pool is surrounded on all sides by rooms and seemed a bit sterile with no potted plants but is big enough and fine for those who don't wnat to explore or leave the hotel. It is about 10 - 15 minutes walk to the town through the back streets and Ciutadella itself is a wonderful town with plenty of shops, back streets and restaurants. we found Ses Voltes the best of the lot - everything we had there was superb, especially the tapas. El Balear down at the Port which comes top of the restaurant ratings was very over-priced but they have a very good lunch menu costing 18 Euro - 3 courses. We had three meals down at the Port which various T. A. members have commented on. We found them all a bit disappointing actually although the settings is marvellous - especially on a hot evening. You pay for the view! Renting a car is the best option for exploring the island. There are some wonderful beaches, coves and bays - some of them difficult to access - you park your car and walk or climb for twenty minutes or so. One problem this year is the seaweed and Son Saura, Macarella, Mitjiana and Turqueta were knee-deep in the stuff. Whether or not the 'council' clean it I couldn't say although a bulldozer tractor was on Macarella one day trying to move it. Forgetting the seaweed the beaches are a dream with clear, aquamarine water and cliffs or pine trees at the waters edge. Best for us were Cala Talier and the remote Cala Trebulger. On the North coast we loved Cala Algurins and Cala Cavalleria. Take your pick but don't forget to take water or food as many of the beaches have no facilities. There are resorts like cala Blanes, Cala Bosch for English pubs, grub etc. for those who like that kind of thing.......To sum up Ciutadella is a great place for a week as is the east end of the island and the hotel is a great place to base yourself. Enjoy!

Just spent a week at this hotel. Booked through Thomas Cook who were excellent. I had special dietary requirements - these were met to my complete satisfaction. The hotel is just 10-12 minutes walk from the centre of the city. No car hire needed - we used local buses. The city itself is lovely, very relaxing.

Having read generally favourable reviews about this hotel from previous guests, we decided to go for it, in mid October, on our first visit to Menorca, and we were not disappointed - it's a great hotel.
We had asked for a room not on the ground floor, and SW facing, which we were told couldn't be guaranteed, but which we got. (room 245) It was huge !! It had a dressing room as big as a single bedroom, 2 single beds put together to make a massive double, a sofa bed/couch, 2 chairs, TV (with SKy, so we could follow the BBC news) coin-op computer with internet access, mini-bar, free safe, excellent large bathroom with jacuzzi bath and shower, and small balcony with 2 chairs and a table, overlooking a narrow (50m) creek, which was warm enough to swim in, and which was closed off to boats. Cleaners came each day if you wanted them, and the minibar was also restocked every day. (Not cheap, but what minibar ever is.) No kettle, but they'll give you a free cup of hot water at the bar, if you bring your own teabags.

Facilities - outside pool, with free sunbeds and parasols. Not bookable, but the hotel wasn't all that busy, so we never had a problem finding one. 2 solariums on first floor with sunbeds, open to the sky, and no parasols. Spa with indoor pool - 5 euros per day, and you have to wear a cap and flipflops, 3 euros and 1.5 euros, so bring your own. Free use of the well-equipped gym. Treatments available from very nice staff -although varying standards of English. I overdid the walking one day, so had an excellent leg massage from Marian (just learning English !) for 50 euros.

We were there with Sovereign (very impressive organisation) on a B&B basis, and the buffet breakfasts were the best we've ever seen in a hotel ! The choice was phenomenal, and we usually had 4 courses - unheard of for us ! You can even have a glass of Cava with your breakfast ...... ! Yes, the restaurant is downstairs with little natural light, but didn't feel cold or forbidding. The staff were very friendly, and all spoke some English -although they really appreciate it if you try out some Spanish or Catalan. Look out for the butter sculptures - an eagle and an archeological monument when we were there. Dinner costs 15 euros, again on a buffet basis, with a huge choice. Standard was pretty ordinary, although the dinner on the Saturday night was really excellent, with amazing fish dishes - don't know if Saturday is always special. Lunch is available in the bar in the foyer, and was simply snacks or salads - nothing special.

There are 2-3 cafe/bars within a few minutes walk, ok for lunch, or icecreams. There is a biggish Spar a couple of streets away, and if you go the direct route, the town centre is 10 mins walk, passing a couple of tapas bars on the way. Taking the promenade route, it takes nearer 20 mins, but you do pass the Club Nautico (Yacht Club) on the way, which has a very good, if pricy, restaurant, with excellent fish dishes. (Try the arroz marisco - delicious.) But don't go on a Sunday night, as it's empty. Plenty of cafes and restaurants in town .

Miramar carhire just to the left of the hotel is very reasonable. We paid 55 euros for 2 days. There is also a very comprehensive bus service throughout the island.

We wanted a good , comfortable base for a walking holiday in Menorca. After looking through tripadvisor reviews we picked this hotel and upgraded to a suite as suggested.
We had a lovely seafacing room with bags of space - a large bed, a sitting area, a huge dressing room and a bathroom with 2 basins and a whirlpool bath.
We found the reception and housekeeping staff very friendly and helpful. Our only comment for improvement was the restaurant-a good variety and quality for a buffet breakfast but with rather surly staff here -perhaps it's the subterranean location that depresses them!
It is a 10 minute walk into town for some pleasant restaurants [Ses Voltes is nice ] and good bus connections to the rest of the island if you don't have a car
We did eat in the restaurant one night which was good value at 15 euros but it's a bit depressing compared with sitting outside at a place in town
Overall - recommended and great value for money

My girlfriend and me have just returned from a 7 night B&B stay at the Hotel Port Ciudadela we booked this through our local Thomson shop.

The hotel is rated as a 4 star and we both felt this right. I can't see why some others gave this hotel a bad review here goes...

Flight - Left 20 mins late but the outbound flight took 1 hiur and 50 minutes and it left on tiem comin gback and took 2 hours.

Transfers - took approx 45 minutes.

Check in was very quick and the lady on reception explained where everything was i.e. bar, indoor pool and spa etc. We had a bellboy take our bags to the room.

The room we had, number 224, was at the back of the hotel but had a semi sea view from the large balcony. The room is big with a big double bed 2 comfortable chairs and table. It also had 2 double wardrobes with plenty of hanging space. A electronic safe that was free of charge to use and a small flat TV with 3 BBC channels. The bathroom had 2 basins and the usual bath, beeday (not sure on the spelling) and WC. And it ws kept spotlessly clean by the staff. It was also fairly quiet at night so we wern't disturbed by the neighbours!!

The hotel gave us a fresh fruit bowl and a bottle of red wine upon reception.

The spa facilities are excellent but were 5 Euros per person per day to use.

There are plenty of sunbeds to use and didn't have a problem finding one in the sun anytime of the day.

The breakfast was good with plenty of choice to suit all guests we ate in the hotel one night, because of the torrential storm!!! and again found the food choice and quailty ot be spot on. We never found it to be cold, like some other reports.

The drink is the bar are slightly more expensive than the old town e.g. small bear 2 Euro's and large 4 Euro's.

The old town is approx a 20 minute walk away, go out of the hotel and turn right and take the coastal walk, the views are lovely. You can take a shorter walk through the side streets and this is approx a 15 minute walk.

The only critisim came from my girlfriend who wanted tea making in the room!!

We took the bus from the square in Cuidadela to Cala Bosch and Blanes, 3.5 Euro's for 2 people one way, and found these resorts geared up for famalies but nevertheless ok.

We also took the 'Express' bus to Mahon, 4.5 Euro's each one way, although it was okay getting there and walking around Mahon the journey back took longer because we got onto the 'slow' bus and not the 'express' bus.

There are plenty of bars and restaurants in Ciudadela here are a few:

Delaney's Irish Bar in the sqaure is not your typical irish bar, its nice, good staff and choice of snacks e.g. pizza, sausage rolls, pasties etc

Ses Voltes - if you choose to eat here you must get the lift to the 2nd floor and eat on the terrace, not only is it cooler, you get the 'better' menu. We ate there 3 times in all and never had any problems with the food or service. Average cost for 2 courses with drinks is 40 Euro's. There also have a set menu of 3 courses with a drink and this is 15 Euro's each. Both are very good value.

La Guitarra - is located in a side street and you eat downstairs in the cellar. The food is good as is the servce, we only ate here once but did not have any problems.

Corb Mari - is located in the marina area and looked really good, we didnlt eat here, not enough time!!

As as word of warning the restaurants in the marina are a hell of a lot more expensive than the one's in town and food is not always the best. My recomendation would be to coohse carefully if your eating in the marina or eat in town as your fist choice.

Me and my friend are single females in our mid 20's and had booked a five day trip in search for relaxation in the sun, and we were so glad that we picked Ciutadella. This hotel couldnt had been better, it is in a great location, beautiful views, friendly staff and lovely pool.
We had our rooms cleaned everyday without fail, even if we slept in, they came back in the afternoon to clean. The staff were very helpful.
It had rained our first 2 days there but that wasn't a problem as they have the spa, which at less than a fiver, was a bargain. I'd suggest to sneak a bottle of champagne in there to completely enjoy ;-)
For drinking i recommend Jazz Bar, Sa Clau, on the marina, what a lovely place with the best cocktails!! Also, bar museu, in the old city, a hippy joint with live Jazz, on sundays.
The old city is so beautiful, and so clean.
We rented out a car and drove through the quiet old streets to the beaches, and they are beautiful, worth the drive!
We have decided we're definately returning 1 day to this beautiful town and hotel.
Hope you enjoy your trip.
