The hotel is located just off the marina and is of a first class standard.
The hotel staff feel that nothing is too much trouble and will make sure every aspect of your stay is catered for.
The food did the previous reviewer stay in a different hotel as its first class as a fussy eater this is the first holiday where i felt spoilt for choice every evening i was there.
The rooms yes they need a little TLC but a large one bedroomed suite for 2 including all self-catering equipment fridge microwave and hob.
I had a room that was not a pool view and found it wonderful to relax on the balcony overlooking a field and a supermarket with silence every evening to unwind.
Resort purpose built around a marine but almost nothing to resort if wanders off the marina.
Ciudadella is a wonderful Spanish old town pedestrianized and not too big with everything central. Bus outside the hotel every 15 minutes daily except market day. Try a lunch on the marina there and watch the world go by.
This hotel is very highly recommended for peace quiet and relaxation.

Room Tip: All rooms are good it depends on your own choice.

My wife and i stayed here on 2nd - 16th September 2011.
Room 302
Both Semi-Retired

I totally agree with the last review, this holiday was absolutely brilliant.

The complex was first class, as where the staff. The reception staff where so polite and couldn’t do enough for you and even if there was a problem they addressed it with a smile.
The restaurant staff apart from being friendly and polite looked after you as if you had been back there load’s of times and new you well. The head waitress! Well she was just lovely and again you felt as if you had known her for years.
Let’s get on to the food.
Breakfast and evening meal you had such a selection it was mind blowing, you had everything to suite all tastes, to itemize the food would take a full page, it was fresh served deliciously and it was hot! Then there were the sweets ho! Boy! Need I say more?

The rooms where ideal, clean and serviced exceptionally well. They had all the equipment you needed if you wanted to cook in and if something wasn’t to hand you only had to ask!
The pool area was designed for relaxing and that’s what we did, plenty of shade if like me you needed it and a pool which was accessibly to all ages. It even had a full time lifeguard.
The bar staff again polite and courteous and entertainment was good especially Elvis!
The Holiday Representative knew her stuff, was well informed and had time to deal with your queries.
Calan Bosch is a nice place to stay has everything you need and more, loads of restaurants bars and shops, Supermarkets and entertainment all with a touch of class.
We had a brilliant time, did the trips, Somni Horses, Mahon boat cruise, Caves etc.
Next time and there will be a next time, I will even rent a car (not very confident about driving abroad) because it was that easy to get around.

So to sum up, when on holiday we always treat people as we would like to be treated ourselves, but on this occasion everyone we spoke to, just did it naturally.

This Hotel is without doubt ...EXCELLENT !! All the reviews are accurate except the one that said ` lousy food` which is wrong...there was a great variety and we could always find something to suit...and there was a microwave available if you wanted your meal a bit hotter. We will be going back again next year as we had a fantastic holiday.

Room Tip: Pool view rooms are better than the ones that are at the back.

My husband and I travelled as a couple 3rd - 17th September 2011, we are aged 48 and 55 with no children!

We had a fantastic time, very relaxing and the accommodation, food, resort and staff etc is excellent, you will NOT be disappointed!

We had room 306 which had a pool and sea view, spotlessly clean, spacious and comfortable, with great balcony space to enjoy a drink and relax on!

The food was fantastic! Why eat out? It was only £5 per person dearer than bed and breakfast and the quality was excellent, everything you could wish for! The orange juice is always like orange squash where ever you go! We enjoyed the freshly prepared tuna steaks and swordfish steaks, there was even king prawns, paella and smoked salmon on occasions! The choice was endless!

The entertainment is good and on 5 nights a week, this is only for an hour each evening but well worth it and sitting on the bar or pool terrace with a glass of sangria was wonderful!!

The Marina is nice and a trip on Amigo glass bottom boat at 19 euros is a must!

Hire a car from Rent a car from near Bettabuy Supermarket near the hotel and tour the island - we did, the roads are good - visit Cala Galdana, San Tomas, Binibequer ( gorgeous white washed village!) Mahon, Arenal de Castell, Fornells and Ciutadella ( you can also get a local bus to ciutadella - and it is well worth going for, watch the world by with a glass or 2 - and enjoy some tapas in the square ( cheaper than by the harbour!) Best to go to ciutadella in the evening when it is cooler

The road train in cala n bosch is worth a trip around the area! stops by La Fontana on the marina. A drink and a sit to enjoy the entertainment in the comfy chairs at Valentino Star hotel on the marina is a must!

Go to the Lighthouse - its great! 20 minute walk by some fabulous villas and to see the sunset there is amazing and enjoy a drink or meal - we did - very expensive but fantastic setting!

Both beaches good and the sea calm to swim in, the colour of the water is amazing -just like a picture postcard! Be warned parasol and sunbeds 17 euros for 2 but we only did this twice and worth it to sit in comfort and you are not cramped together!

Enjoyed lazing around at the pool and enjoying the pool bar and snacks! Always plenty of parasols and sunbeds and no-one hogs them in advance. The children have their own area to play and swim.

The staff are amazing, a special mention to Noela who works in the bar, pool area and restaurant, always happy, cheerful and professional without being intrusive!

The restaurant could do with having a family only area and a time for adults to eat on their own!

We used the Spa but only for a swim, jets and steam room, treatments are a bit expensive - as are the thomson trips - best to do your own thing!

The rep does put on a champagne reception on gala evening each thursday.

A very very enjoyable and relaxing holiday!!! We had temperatures of 30+ every day! apart from a bit of cloud and rain when we arrived, no need for jumpers or cardigans and it stayed light til 8.30 each evening - simply wonderful!!

Room Tip: We e-mailled the hotel for pool view and a room away from families which we got!!

Two adults in their 40’s and one 13 year old travelling July 2011.

We flew from Doncaster and at check in we were advised that the hand luggage weight was 5 kilos. However the brochure states that Thomson Platinum customers are allowed 7 kilos. This meant we had re-pack some hand luggage.

Transfer to the hotel was via a mini bus and took approximately 90 minutes. We were the last to be dropped off. Again the brochure states Thomson Platinum customers will be dropped off first or second.

Neither of the above are any big deals but it does feel that you've paid a little extra for something that has not been delivered.

On arrival at the hotel the reception staff were pleasant, friendly and our bags were taken to our room for us. We hired a safety deposit box and were asked to put down a deposit on beach towels and the TV remote. We were also offered an upgrade to a Royal Suite (Room 226) for an additional £140.00. We decided to take them up on the offer and it was well worth it. A Royal Suite comprises of two bedrooms (with two single beds in each) two bathrooms (both with bath, WC and shower) a seating area (One of which converts into a double bed) with flat screen TV, a kitchenette, fridge and dinner table with 4 chairs. There were ample kitchen utensils as well as a microwave and toaster. There was also a two ring halogen hob, which didn't work. If you want to make snacks, sandwiches etc you're fine but you couldn't cook a substantial meal with the equipment provided.

On the second day the air conditioning unit developed a leak which resulted in water dripping from the unit onto the bathroom floor. We contacted reception and the unit was repaired within the hour.

The hotel itself is clean and comfortable. There are lots of sun beds and the pool area is nice. I would say though that I feel the hotel is more of a good 3 star than 4 star and it’s starting to look just a little tired around the edges. Nothing to really complain about but as I say, if you expect a good 3 star then you won't be disappointed.

So the property itself is fine, no issues. The food however is a different story. The quality of the food is, to say the least distinctly average. We were half board and after the first night/morning only went down for breakfast on the odd occasion and twice more for dinner. In terms of breakfast the quality of food used was poor. None of cereals tasted like branded products and the cornflakes tasted like cardboard. The orange juice tasted watered down and the bacon comprised mainly of fat. The eggs and bread were OK and they did do omelettes to order. Dinner was worse than breakfast with limited choice and what choice there was, the food was often lukewarm. We did attend the gala dinner and the food that night was fine, nothing al a carte but fine. If they can produce that standard 1 night a week, why can't they produce it 7 nights a week.

So all in all, not a bad hotel but go on a room only basis as the food is poor.

We have just returned home from a very relaxing holiday at the Macarella and we were very impressed with the standard of the hotel. The rooms were very spacious and well equiped, ours having a lovely pool view. The food, both breakfast and dinner were excellent with plenty of choice. The waiting/kitchen staff very friendly and efficient.
The rooms were thoroughly cleaned five days out of seven by the cleaning staff.
We particularly enjoyed using the facilities in the Spa and Gym on our stay, the staff could not do enough to help you and make your stay relaxed.
Overall we had a great holiday and would not hesitate to return in the future.

Room Tip: We were on first floor with pool view which we liked.

We went wanting a week of peace and quiet and to chill out and this was what we got.

The apartment (209) was large - big lounge / diner with seperate bedoom and bathroom, it was spotlessy clean and the maid service was excellent - we overlooked the gardens at the side of the hotel which was very peacefull. Even though this was the first week of September it was obvious that the main season was coming to an end and the hotel (and resort) was not full. Staff were friendly and very helpful especially those in the restaurant who couldn't do enough for you.

We don't usually go half board but we worked out eating in the hotel only once would cover the cost, but as it happened the quality and variety of the food was so good that we ate in five nights of the seven that we were there. The choice both at breakfast and in the evening was huge, for breakfast there was plenty of fresh fruit, cereals, continental style cold meats & cheeses through to freshly cooked pancakes and omelettes, scrambled and fried eggs with various types of sausages and bacon. In the evening there were huge choices of salads, standard staples of pastas, pizza & french fies with choices of seven or eight main courses including freshly cooked fish, meat and vegetarian dishes with large choice of vegetables/sides. Had no problems with luke warm or dried out food even though we went down to eat later in the evening.

As others have noted the pool was fantatstic with a lifeguard on duty all day. There was a good snack bar, although we tended to get some tapas in the resort to fend off the mid afternoon munchies after the huge breakfast and before the bigger dinner! In the end we didn't use the spa or gym (just didn't find the time) - but managed to get several morning runs in by going round the resort (approx. 5miles), whish was needed to burn off those meals.

The resort itself built around the marina was pleasant with a wide variety of bars and restaurants ranging from those catering to Brits abroad wanting their "full english" and British beer, through to some very good local ones doing tapas to high quality seafood - would highly recommend the Aquarium restaurant for it's great Sea bass in Salt Crust - which was better quality and cheaper than we have had anywhere before.

Overall a great hotel and resort - highly recommend for couples or families with young children - could see that it would not have enough to do for teenagers and singles looking for a more exciting (noisy??) time- but that is what is Ibiza is for.
