Hostal Sa Prensa is an extremely clean, family run, 8 bedroom Hostal, run by genuine, kind people, who leave you to come and go, but always have a friendly wave for you.
It is situated on the "Passeig Maritim" in Ciutadella, with super sea views. The four rooms at the front have very large balconies, with table and chairs and they overlook the port at Ciutadella where you can admire the sea view, watch the people strolling along and see the ferries arrive from Barcelona and Majorca. Free Wi-fi is available and there is plenty of free parking outside. The bus station and bus stops are a short walk away and there are also plenty of places to hire bikes as there is a dedicated cycle lane around Ciutadella.
The rooms are fairly basic with twin beds, bedside lights, a wardrobe, mirror, wall mounted TV (no english channels) and a ceiling fan, but they are very clean. We were very impressed with our bathroom which was fully tiled with bath/shower, bidet, and there was always plenty of hot water. The bedroom and bathroom were cleaned daily and whilst the towels may not have been 5* quality, they were replaced every day, which was great. The glossy floor tiles in the hallway and in the bedrooms and bathrooms were washed daily, even under the beds, and they sparkled with shine and cleanliness.
Breakfast was great, sat outside, in the bar downstairs, and included freshly squeezed orange juice, cheese and tomato tostadas and coffee, all served by the friendly waitress. The bar/restaurant is very popular with the local people which we felt added to the atmosphere.
One of the highlights for us, was going downstairs for our dinner where the food was prepared and cooked by the owner's wife and her team. Our particular favourites included the Avocado, walnut and cheese salad with balsamic dressing, the pizza Sa Prensa which was scrumptious, and the chicken or pork served with melted cheese and caramelised onions, all served with salad and a generous portion of homemade patatas bravas. Home made puddings too! Very good value, and if you are served by Llurre, then he will add to the friendly and fun atmosphere too.
It is a 15 minute walk into the beautiful small city of Ciutadella, either through the neighbourhood streets, or along the Passeig Maritim, following the seaview route, to the restaurants in the harbour or in the town.
I would definitely return for the friendly welcome, excellent location and value for money accommodation.
