“Best hotel around”
Reviewed June 19, 2007

Stayed at the Hotel Tres in Palma last week. Situated in the old town near the cathedral. Fantastic hotel. Rooms superb. Staff friendly. Roof pool and lounge area terrific. Public car park 2 mins away.
Second visit to the hotel. Ask for a quiet room that does not overlook the pedestrian area as this can be noisy late at night.

We have contacted this hotel after a sleeples night at Puro so noisy!), and asked for quiet room. At that point all I wanted was so sleep.

Actually the hotel has overcome my expecations thanks to the roof terrace. May is not a month when you can swim, but it's just sooo nice to lie at the roof terrace especially with such nice views around. Also you can come up there in the evening when all is lit around.

The room from inside is decent, it's really quite there, and if you open the door, you can hear wonderful classical music from the famous restaurant downstairs.

The stuff was helpful, the only drawback is that the rooms are too small, and the wonderful small swimming pool was above our room.

Stayed at Hotel Tres early May. Arrived early and they were very accommodating and I could access my room straight away. They even offered me breakfast which was a nice touch.

Stayed in a superior room (with beamed ceiling). Lovely crisp, white room (some may find a little minimal but it is a nice contrast to the heat outside) and an amazing bathroom - almost as big as the room itself. The roof terraces (two) were lovely and the larger one had amazing views over the whole of Palma. Breakfast selection was fantastic. Room service quality was also very good. Bar and courtyard areas were lovely but quiet in the evening. Free internet access in the bar area was very handy. Staff were lovely and polite but unobtrusive. Location is unbeatable for central Palma - close to all good shops and restaurants but only a short stroll from the waterfront. Can be a little noisy at night in the street outside but it was bearable.

A real mix of guests - mainly English and Swedish but other nationalities too. Mainly couples - 20s/30s but some small groups and singles.

Reasons for not giving 5 stars? The room was just a little lacking in comfort. It would be fine for maybe 2 days but longer than that it felt a little clinical. Only other reason I can think of is on my last visit to Palma I stayed at the Portixol and that was in a league of its own - definitely above Hotel Tres.

However, all in all, highly recommended.

  • Disliked — Slightly clinical room

We stayed at Hotel Tres for two nights in the beginning of May. We were allowed to check in early, around 10am, which was an added bonus. The rooms are very simple/chic. There isn't a whole lot of space, but we didn't spend much time in our room, so we found it perfectly okay. The breakfast is a perfect way to start the day; a combination of cold and hot food, with capuccinos and mimosas as well. And, the hours for eating breakfast are very accomodating to the Spanish style of staying up late and sleeping in; they serve breakfast until 11am. The front desk was very helpful when we needed anything. In addition, the rooftop terrace was a beautiful place to watch the sunset. The only drawback to this hotel is the price; it is a bit expensive, but if you're looking for a boutique hotel, it's a great place to stay.

After reading the previous reviews we think some of them are a bit unfair. For us hotel was excelent. We think that it depends on expectations. To be honest hotel tres is not a 5 star luxury hotel, but we didn't look for that. Nice cosy friendly hotel well located. Atention is relaxed. Staff is very friendly.
By the way at night bar close early (more or less midnight). We were shocked about it. Night receptionist explained to us that one of the hotel policy is quietness so guest can relaxe. Solutions: minibar in the room or take a walk around and you will find open bars.
Two thumbs up for hotel tres staff.
We will come back for sure.

We pre booked the Hotel Tres via their website and received a personal email and a full confirmation. On arrival at the hotel the reception staff denied the booking was ever made until I produced the hard copy. Initially they said that they were full and could not help, however the hotel manager rescued the situation very well and offered us either a standard room( we booked a superior terrace) or a move to another hotel so rather than do any more travelling we took the standard room. A bottle of wine was sent to our room as an apology.

The rooms are nice enough but not oversized and ours had no seating area. Room 410 also had a very poor wifi signal strength resulting in plenty of downtime. I was also disappointed to see that the extractor fan in the bathroom was clogged up with dust and there was a smell of urine around the wc. Another downside is the huge amount of external noise at 8am every morning so do not go here Wanting to sleep in as its impossible. Our bedroom was over the street and the opposite buildings windows are about 3 metres away so not very private and zero view. This area of palma is undergoing a major clean up and construction is noise is everywhere. One other comment is that at no time checking in or out was assistance with porterage offered.
On the good side, the staff are polite and helpful being mainly German which is I assume is also their largest client base. Breakfast taken in the courtyard is a nice experience with a fair choice of continental cold foods available. The location is superb being on the doorstep of many fantastic shopping areas and restaurants. The beds are king size with lots of pillows so no complaints there. Satellite channels are very limited ie for english speakers only Sky News, CNN and Eurosport.
Bar prices are not over the top so its not an expensive option to spend a few hours in the courtyard being served drinks from the bar. For the laptop users, I found plug points and great signal strength in this area.
Would we staY again - yes for sure - the location and the courtyard are so good that we will forget the downsides like not being able to sleep.

We stayed at Tres for 2 nights at the beg of Sept in a junior suite. Must say the hotel is in a great location and right next to abaco - you must go there! The pool on the roof was also great and had great views over the city and the catherdral - nice to relax up there with a cocktail! Must say I was dissapointed with the room we stayed it. We upgraded to junior suite but for the money I didnt think it was that special - have stayed in some amazing hotels for the same price and they were much better. The breakfast not great either. Staff were great though - would stay again becuase of location but wont pay for a junior suite again - not worth it!
