“No tea/coffee making facilities in a 4* hotel!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 19, 2012

Stayed Oct 2012 half term with a friend for 3 nights. We'd requested a high level room with a sea view as heard they've been refurbished. The room that was allocated was to the side so not much of a sea view! The room was very clean, lovely and finished to a high standard. The bathroom was a generous size with a double shower but had no ventilation other than have the window open! Biggest gripe there wasn't any tea or coffee making facilities just a bottle of chilled water and a small carton of orange juice supplied foc - mind you had to share each one between two of us! Also only 1 lot of free toiletries for 2 people!

Disappointed there wasn't anywhere to sit, relax and sunbathe as the pool area was closed off for refurb. We could use the pool of the neighbouring hotel but that was very very small and pretty grim! We walked in and walked straight back out! Couldn't really sit on our room balcony as there was too much noise from the building work below.

We booked just one night here following a week on the north of the island. Having read other reviews we requested a refurbished room with a sea view and were not disappointed. The room was new, clean, fresh and modern and we overlooked the marina. Yes, there was scaffolding at the front of the hotel but we spent the afternoon and evening in Palma and then walked back to the hotel with ease. Breakfast was plentiful and the bus for the airport stopped, literally, opposite the front door. Bus fare was 2.5 euros per person and there was a bus every 15 minutes.

Room Tip: request a sea view

Do not book half-board. We booked half board and the evening meals were terrible. There was a choice of only two main courses and always one of the courses was cold. We think the meals were cooked earlier in the day and heated up in a micro wave oven. Not what you expect from a four star hotel. We sent meals back which were poor quality and cold. The standard was the worst we had experienced in 40 years of travelling abroad. I complained to reception and also put my complaint in the complaints book. All Spanish hotels have a legal requirement to provide such a book. At breakfast there was plenty of variety but avoid the hot food which is cold.

Rooms were lovely. Location excellent and the noise from workmen did not bother us. Staff pleasant and helpful but no kitchen staff during the evening. Pool was closed and I used the very small pool in the hotel next door.

We stayed here at the end of October, the refurbished rooms look great clean and bright, and the position of the hotel is 1st class but unfortunately for my friends who stayed in room 518 on the first evening the new lowered ceiling in the bathroom collapsed and to our surprise we discovered that large blocks of cement were used as counter balance to keep the new ceiling in place. When the ceiling collapsed one of the blocks narrowly missed hitting my friend on the head which could of had very serious consequences. Reception could only offer a much smaller room as an alternative (that was after sending a chambermaid with a step ladder to replace the ceiling panels) we decided to stay in the room as no more damage could occur even though the interior wiring which could now be seen left a lot to be desired (in Spanish we would call it a chapuza). The next day maintenance replaced the same panels which were damaged and looked shabby but apart from the reception staff saying they were sorry no apology was received by the management when this could have been a serious accident. The building works were very noisy even with the double glazed windows closed, and as the terrace was closed you couldn't sit on the balcony in the beautiful sunshine because of this noise. Apart from this we had a good short break but would think twice about going back to this hotel.

Spent two nights here at the end of our holiday and we chose it for its location as its one of the few hotels on the promenade within walking distance of the city centre. It is still in the middle of a refurb and we had a beautiful refurbished room on the 5th floor, its worth paying the extra for a premium room as the views over the waterfront and towards the cathedral, especially in the evening when the cathedral is all lit up, are amazing. Decor is super, white and bright turquoise, very modern with an excellent huge shower cubicle in the bathroom. When the refurbishment is completed this will be an excellent hotel in a fantastic position. Plenty of choice for breakfast but we would only stay here on a bed and breakfast basis, there are plenty of restaurants nearby without having to walk back into the City centre in the evening. We will certainly return to this hotel and look forward to seeing the completed refurbishment.

Room Tip: Pay extra for a premium room, on floor 4 or higher, with sea view, its worth it to sit on the balcon...

I can't but agree with other reviewers who praise the hotel's location on the main seafront avenue, within walking distance of the old town and cathedral and on the bus route to the airport. We arrived with a hire car as we were moving on for the rest of our stay, and were relieved to find that the hotel has its own allocated spaces in the multi story car park practically next door for just a few Euros per 24 hours. It was a little scary pulling up just outside reception to unload before parking, as there is absolutely no space and you have to drive up onto the pavement and off again, into the mad stream of traffic that roars relentlessly along the Avenida, but once that was over it was fine.
We stayed there in early October 2012, when work was going on in the downstairs bar and lower floors. Our (not very) late night drink on the pool bar terrace one evening was cut rather abruptly short by the staff announcing they were closing. As this was the only bar open, this seemed a little churlish!
The pool itself is really quite small, and didn't look entirely clean - so I'm glad to hear it is included in the current refurb.
Staff were friendly and helpful, arranging for our family group to have adjoining rooms at the last minute. They let us down a bit, though, on local knowledge. We wanted to eat at a particular tapas restaurant for a special big birthday, and they advised us booking was not needed. Very wrong! Luckily we wandered just around the corner and just managed to get a table before the Friday rush really got underway.
The rooms are bright, airy and with a seaside feel, and it is worth booking a sea view despite the noise as the sunrise behind the cathedral makes it all worth it. The family room, however, was rather cramped - not much bigger than the double but with an extra single bed squeezed into it right up against the window.
The breakfast buffet has lots of choice, as other guests have said. The quality of some of the items was not as good as other Spanish and Majorcan hotels I have stayed in (the croissants and pastries, for example) but there are plenty of other things to pick instead and you won't go hungry.
It will be interesting to see how the rest of the refurb goes, and whether the public areas eventually match the upper rooms in style and quality.

Room Tip: To make the most of the location pick a sea view room on an upper floor.
