“Not Changed”

I looked at this again as it featured in Majorca guide book as top hotel. Well I can't see it's changed much, if at all, since we stayed there. What a horrible experience and one of the worst hotels I have stayed at. As an example the hotel talks about a picturesque lane at the rear where the balcony overlooks. What they don't say is that it's extremely busy and faces nightclubs and the smell of urine is bad. Some may enjoy the experience but we didn't.

We stayed at the San Lorenzo for 2 nights. It was kind of a self-service place - staff was not visible at all times, the lobby was usually unmanned, and the bar was always empty. We didn´t go for breakfast because we found it to be expensive, and it wasn´t included in the room price. Try for the rooms upstairs near the pool, which is a great place to relax. Our room was clean and nicely furnished, a good size. The bathroom was quite spacious. There is no parking, street parking is limited time-wise and hard to come by, so we parked our rental car in a nearby garage for a whopping 40 Euro a day!

WE have just returned from 3 nights at this delighful hotel .I was a littel concerned as I had read very poor comments the day before leaving .However we were welcomed warmly by the owner and a newly appointed Italian manager who spoke excellent English and couldnt do enough to help us during our stay .

The room was warm and comfortable with all the ameneties we required .

It was very convenient for resteraunts and shopping and sight seeing .

Being in the centre of the old town of Palma there was a little out door noise but only what you would expect .

There are quite a few steps to the rooms so would not be suitable for people with limitted ability .

We would definately stay at the hotel again when we return to Palma. and would recommend it to any one wanting something a little more intimate and special

I really don't know where the other reviewers stayed as they seem to have had such a different experience to us!!! (maybe the hotel does its own reviews??)

Yes the hotel is very well situated, ie right within the centre of Palma, and LOOKS very pretty. But - and it's a BIG but - it's one of the noisest hotels I've ever stayed in! We travel a lot and love cities so it's not the old 'well it's a city hotel - what do you expect?' It has NO soundproofing whatsoever, and the first room we were showed to was so noisy it would have been absolutely impossible to sleep. Across the very thin street, directly level to our bedroom, there was a large bloodhound in a bedroom who barked every time anyone walked by (from his balcony!) and the street was very noisy and echoed a lot (and no double glazing) there was a lot of building work going on so a siesta was completely out of the question.

So, in order to get a least one hour's sleep, we asked to be moved and there was only one room let - a central room which was more money and they charged us for it! The lovely assistant agreed the front room was very noisy and said she'd ask her manager to let us have the central room at the same rate but this was never communicated back to us and the manager never even bothered to show her face; just told us - via her assistants that we'd have to pay the extra 50 Euros a night - nice!

Re it being clean, it was fairly but the bathroom flooded whenever we used the shower and the bedding left a lot to be desired. The 'double bed' was two singles pushed together and completely rock solid so no idea how this is meant to be suitable for older people?

Some people have commented on it being 'friendly' - again not our experience! There was never anyone around. When you came down to breakfast you had to ring a number on a phone to call someone into the dining room to order! And you let yourself in and out via a security code - home from home???

So all in all, not one of our best experiences, both in terms of noise, comfort and - most importantly - customer service.

Have just returned from a week in Mallorca which started off with 3 nights at the San Lorenzo. We booked directly with the hotel and chose room 8 which was a Suite with a separate living room and courtyard. Both the room and living room were large enough, spotlessly clean and had a great bathroom.

The hotel was charming, perfectly located for shopping and a good selection of restaurants and bars. The pool was small but exactly as we expected.

The only problem was a lack of staff. We were there as a group of four and the first morning we requested if we could have breakfast up on the terrace by the pool. The lady said that as there were four of us it would be impossible. We didn’t quite understand why but as the morning went on we totally understood. This lady cooked breakfast, served breakfast (in the breakfast room and also up 3 steep flights of stairs with large laden trays to the terrace) and at the same time she was checking people out, checking people in, answering the telephone, portering and then a bit later was chamber-maiding and in between all that was tending bar. Breakfast was okay but we would have loved another pot of coffee and felt that she had too much else to do so didn’t like to ask. The following two mornings we went out for breakfast.

Having done our homework on this place before booking it, we found it exactly as expected and simply loved it. If your expectation is 24/7 round the clock service, chain-style conformity, and staff with perfect English do not book here. If you want something a little different in the heart of Palma's ancient city streets, this is definitely for you!

Our room was relatively small, but led straight onto a beautiful walled terrace area, lined with lemon trees, the centrepiece being a small but perfectly clean swimming pool. Breakfast is served at your own personal table outside your room and adjacent to the pool - perfect! The food was simple, but good quality coffee, fresh orange juice etc. The rooms are well equipped with half bottles of good Mallorcan wine.

The only slight complaint was that we found staff hard to find when trying to check-out, but really, this slightly amateur, laissez-faire approach to service was more than compensated by the friendliness and warmth of the people. We will definitely come back to this place in the future.

The hotel is small and private with just a handful of bedrooms. They advertise it as wanting you to feel 'at home' which you very much do, the hotel is secure as the front gate requires a code for entry. Staff leave you to it, if you want pampering and attention all the time the hotel is not for you. If you want to get out and about, see the sights, eat out, then it is great. The location in the old town couldnt be more convenient for getting back late after dinner/drinks. Abaco, night markets and other attractions are less than a 5minute walk. The pool area is pretty, the pool is small but sufficient for cooling down and you would never know you were in the city, Its very peaceful. Breakfast is not worth the money, would suggest eating in the local cafes in the nearby square.
