“Honeymoon delight!”
Reviewed August 13, 2013

This was our last stop during our honeymoon through Spain. We drove from Madrid to San Sebastián stoping in Rioja to visit several vineyard in between. I must say the drive through Spain country side is breathtaking, six hrs in the car was like nothing but I would skip all of that if I knew what was waiting for us in Mallorca, the personal is so welcoming, we where tested with such care that I didn't want to leave. Too bad the restaurant in the hotel is not up to par but I'm sure they will get there...this is a piece of heaven worth to go back. Rooms are a little outdated beds not really comfortable but we asked for our beds to be switched and they did it without hesitation...anything we asked, anything thu where happy to accommodate. Crowd is older but this is a place to relax not to party the night away...all in all great value.

This hotel has it all! The amenities are awesome, the views are spectacular, the restaurants are more than plenty. We were impressed from the moment we arrived at the 5 Star Luxury hotel. I would definitely stay here again. Everything was perfect and the service blew me away.

In just a few words … total relaxation and luxury.
In a few more words … we have just returned from a wonderful week’s break at Castillo Hotel Son Vida. The service and facilities were all that we expected of a 5* establishment. Damian checked us in, and always remembered our name when he saw us during the week. All staff, at all times, were professional and courteous.
We stayed in a room with a view of the golf course and beyond to the Bay of Palma and the Cathedral. We had our teenage son with us and the room was large enough for the three of us. Our bed was very comfortable and our son had no complaints about his put-you-up. The bathroom was well-appointed – the separate shower was quite powerful – the hairdryer less so! Complimentary toiletries were provided.
The location of our room was very quiet, away from the terrace, restaurants and pool and, as someone else has mentioned, although there was an event on the terrace one evening we were not aware of this at all. We had complete peace and quiet for the whole of our stay.
We are not early risers and were pleased that breakfast was extended until 11am. The choice of items from the breakfast buffet was extensive and very well presented. Some cooked items were available from the buffet while a chef was on hand to cook any specific items. The fresh orange juice was delicious. One word of warning – breakfast is taken outside under large parasols but not all tables are completely in the shade so it is wise to put sun cream on your arms before you go down to breakfast.
We ate at the hotel on 4 occasions – it has to be said that meals are expensive but then this is a 5* hotel so I have no complaint about the price per se. Meals in the Es Vi and Castello restaurants were always beautifully presented and delicious.
The main purpose of our holiday was to relax rather than hire a car and tour the island, so we spent most of our time by the pool. The pool is not huge but is plenty large enough, given the size of the hotel, and very inviting in the heat! There is a separate smaller pool which has a seat to allow the disabled to be lowered into the water. There were very few children at the hotel while we were there (we probably saw no more than 10) and the hotel itself did not appear to be full, even though it was the first week of August. We had no difficulty getting sunbeds each day, even though we were often not at the pool before noon. Towels are available at the pool – 2 towels per bed.
Once again, 5* prices apply to drinks – 3 milkshakes were 27 euros; an alcoholic cocktail, a non-alcoholic cocktail, a fruit juice and 2 small bottles of water were around 45 euros. This is no surprise really as you are paying for exclusivity not the value of the drinks.
We did not hire a car as we did not want to spend time travelling around the island but we did want to go down into Palma. We could have got a taxi but our son likes a bus journey and since there is a bus stop right outside the hotel we decided to give this a go. Ramon at Reception was very helpful in talking us through places of interest in Palma and gave us all the details for where to get the bus back etc. The bus journey (1 euro 50 each way per person) was very easy – but if you are getting the bus back make sure you are at the bus stop early as we were told it was due at 10 minutes past the hour but on we found on 2 of the 3 occasions we used the bus it was early. You can’t miss your stop at the hotel as it is at the end of the bus’s route and will stop there for 5 minutes before heading off again.
The maid service deserves a special mention. The rooms, and the rest of the hotel, are kept absolutely spotless. The maids were very discreet and almost always managed to clean our room each day whilst we were at breakfast. Outside, the grounds and pool area are kept immaculate. The golf course and the others nearby looked superb.
If you respect the 5* rating and 5* prices then you will not be disappointed. We had a fantastic holiday and have returned home feeling refreshed and relaxed.

So often five star hotels do not live up to the rating but I was thoroughly impressed by Castillo Son Vida. The luxurious surroundings, attention to detail and attentive yet unobtrusive staff made our stay prefect. The children's club meant that we could relax knowing our 7 year old was entertained out of the hot sun for a couple of hours each day ( it is easy to secure a sun lounger near the club to see them). Lots of craft activities and the gentle manner of Hana looking after the children's club made it first rate.
The gluten free bread in the restaurant made my stay since I am often made to feel awkward by hotel staff for requesting gluten free alternatives. The grounds and the view were beautiful while the interiors were sumptuous.
The only negative comments I would have are that the showers are not powerful though more than adequate and the restaurant is expensive in the evening.
Close enough to explore Palma, though you need a car or have to rely on taxis. Hope to be back again!

Stayed there in early August 2013 for three nights in conjunction with a wedding that we were invited to at the nearby St. Regis. So what we wanted is an oasis of luxury and tranquility with perfect service. That is exactly what we did get - and even more. Even though the hotel was full, we were upgraded to a grand room with marvellous view of the bay and the cathedral, thanks to the SPG platinum membership. The room also had a spacious balcony and was far away from the restaurant terrace so one could not hear anything from the bar or the restaurant. There was apparently an event but we did not notice anything. Room was tastefully appointed. Maid service was perfect. We had room service a few times - speedy and friendly. Breakfast and dinner outside on the terrace were lovely and all of that with a magnificent view. The one and only very small thing I would recommend to the hotel is that they have more than one egg cooking station for breakfast. Waiting was a bit too long for my taste. But that is - as I mention - a minor thing. What else? Check-in and check-out in perfect order and very friendly again. We also decided to take the hotel limousine to go to the wedding at the St. Regis. They have a new S class so that makes perfect sense if all dressed up instead of having to sit in a regular taxi. Price was not more than the regular taxi would have charged. Again, as the title says, a great experience that we will certainly want to enjoy again.

Here for a week and thought I was staying in Beverly Hills. Truly a 5 star hotel. Rooms were great and food was even better. Service is what you would expect....top notch. The hotel and grounds are absolutely amazing.....as beautiful as the pics were, they could not give this hotel the clear understanding of how breath taking it really is. You will not be disappointed.

After many years of travel, saying this was the best is really something. Luxury Collection never disappoints, but this was very special. We had a "Tower Suite" and we definitely felt like kings and queens. This former noble house has been restored, modernized and expanded, but has retained the character of the former "castle" Take a stroll around the main floor to the lounges and sitting rooms with their period art and furniture. Take tea off the bar in a beautiful lounge room. Settle into an overstuffed chair with a book and you can imagine yourself the lord of the manor.

Sitting high above the bay of Palma the views are stunning. The staff here are warm and professional. They will do their utmost to make your stay one to remember. You will feel pampered whether you relax at the pool, take a spa treatment or enjoy their FANTASTIC food.

The concierge staff will take as much time as you need to guide you to various day trips in the area. Mallorca is beautiful and deserved to be explored beyond Palma. We are not golfers, but the courses look great and there is a shuttle from the hotel to various courses.

Room Tip: Try to get a "castle room" much more character than the new section.
