Stayed at the hotel for three nights half board. We took a taxi from the airport which cost 18 Euros. The journey took about 11 minutes but was pretty hair raising! On arrival at the hotel we were greeted by the receptionist and speedily checked in. Our room was clean and spacious and had a sea view which we had'nt booked so was a bonus. The view was breathtaking as the hotel is overlooking the harbour and you could see for miles.
The food could not be faulted. There was a huge selection for breakfast and dinner. At breakfast you could have omelettes cooked to order in front of you and at dinner you could choose your own steak or fish to be cooked to your preference. There was such a choice. The dining room overlooked the harbour and you could see the cathedral all lit up at night in the distance. The staff were friendly and would always be willing to help.
The position of the hotel meant that there was quite a lot of walking involved unless you took a bus, which ran very frequently. The number 1 bus from the bottom of the street took you all the way to the airport for 1.30 Euros and there were numerous stops along the way to get off and explore.
All in all we had a very good stay at the hotel and would recommend it highly, although because of the position of it I would not recommend for the elderly or anyone with children unless of course the lift is working!!

The advertised lift which takes you down to the street below was not working as most of the previous reviews state.

I have just returned from a 4 day half board break at the Catalonia Majorica with my wife and 2 young children. Having read previous reports (after we had booked) I was a little anxious as to what we would find. The first experience was meeting the reception staff who were very friendly and very informative. Our room was quite big, we had booked a twin room for 2 adults and 2 children, in it there was a queen sized bed and 2 single beds. The bathroom was spacious and very clean with towels being changed daily. The restaurant had a wide variety of food for both breakfast time and for the evening meal. Overall the hotel was very impressive and we would definately go there again.

We have just returned from a long pre Christmas weekend break to Palma, we stayed at the Catalonia Majorica. The hotel has a great location if you like looking at the view. The room we had was on the 5th floor, it wasn't large but was comfortable, clean and nicely furnished with great views over the harbour, across the bay to the Cathedral and of Bellver Castle, stunning when viewed at night when it was all lit up. The heating/aircon. was effective and controllable as the evenings were cool. The reception staff were excellent and very helpful. Breakfast was adequate and plentiful.
They are the plus points.
As mentioned in previous reviews the hotel is up a hill, quite a climb even if you are reasonably fit.. The local taxis do a roaring trade, no wonder there is a taxi rank around the corner.
As for the advertised funicular/lift - Which one would that be? Not only was it not working but we didn't see any evidece of it's existence.
All other staff apart from the reception need a lesson in customer service, even a smile would help. They didn't even acknowledge you if you spoke to them.
All in all an adequate hotel but not the advertised 4*
There are definately better hotels in Palma .......but not many of them can beat the view.

Hotel was nice in theory, a basic 4 star with nice rooms and a good sea view of the harbour (worth paying the extra for). Buffet dinner was not that good, cooked food luke warm and would not recommend although there are no eateries within the proximity. We travelled with a baby and a person who had walking difficulties who therefore found the position of the hotel a problem as it was up the top of a steep hill and we found it was difficult to push the buggy up although easy to go down (I have a light 1 year old - would have struggled with a heavier baby)! Buses into the town of Palma were from the bottom of the hill every 7 minutes for 1.10 euro and taxis were about 6 euros each way. As advertised there was a lift that took you down a street which was not working and like similar reviews was not fixed for our trip although the Travel Agent assured us that it would have been which could have helped matters although you would have still had to negotiate a hill back to the lift. Food and drink in the hotel was expensive with a gin and tonic about 6.50 euro where you could walk down the hill and get one for half the price but thats the whole point of a hotel isn't it.
Generally good value for money, rooms clean and staff pleasant. Would recommend if you were in good health, liked a walk and didn't want to stay in the city centre.

My wife and I just got back from a 3-day city-break to Palma, staying at the Catalonia Majorica. It was great! I did think things had got off to a poor start when I found that a) the furnicular lift was not working and b) there was poor signage to the hotel from Av Joan Miro (where the No 3 bus stops). However, the quality of the hotel, and the friendliness of the staff, along with the view over th harbour, soon put things at ease.
We had intended to eat out, but decided to stay in the firt night and it was definitely worth it. The quality of the food and the variety was excellent value. In fact we decided to stay in for the second night too.
The staff were variable - some of the restaurant staff required humour transplants, but generally, certainly with a bit of spoken Spanish, it was easy to establish a very pleasant relationship.
The fare to and from the airport is 1.85 euros (not 1.10) but I would recommend a Bono-Bus (10 trips) available at any "Tabacos" stand for 8 euros.
Enjoy! We'll be back.
