We were really impressed with this hotel, it is modern and well maintained, rooms are very clean. Rooms are carpeted and beds extremely comfortable. The pool area is lovely with plenty room and a good beach bar serving food throughout the day. The hotel is centrally located, and the views from the front and side balconies of the Paseo Maritimo are spectacular. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. And it is well worth 10 euros to use the spa area for an hour, one of the nicest spas I have been to. Overall I cannot find any reason to fault this hotel and would definitely stay there again when next in Palma."

We just returned from a short holiday in Spain ,of which 5 days in Palma ,Majorca.
What a beautiful island !
Unfortunately we chose the wrong hotel .This hotel was obviously built in the sixties and is crying out for a face lift. Fifty years ago it must have been a great place.
Our room was facing another building and portion of a demolished site with graffiti on the remaining walls.
No kettle or facilities to make coffee or tea in the room.
Above is fine ,as we normally do not spend a lot of time in the room .What was absolutely shocking was the attitude of some (not all) of the concierge staff.
The website stated that check-in can be done after 12h00 .We arrived about 12h45 from Barcelona ,with a 8 month old baby.On our arrival we were told that the room was not ready - that's it !No "sorry for the inconvenience ,but have a glass of water while you wait' - no ,we had to turn back to the street and find a place to sit ,while our room was getting prepared.(We paid in full before we arrived).
A hour later ,when we actually checked-in and my wife noted to the concierge that this is rather dissapointing we received a not- caring attitude.
Please be also warned that the hotel is located close to a few night clubs and from 21h00 you will be pested by pimps who will be trying to convice you to come and see 'topless ladies'.
The pool is in a poor state and do not expect electrical converters for plugs.
In conclusion - An old weary place with some grumpy concierge staff (especially the tall dark haired grump).

We stayed at the Palas Atenea last summer and it was sunny and hot every day. In the sea-view room, the sun was shining in under the curtains at 8am. You must get a sea-view room; it's worth the extra; the view over the bay and harbour is magnificent. This time, however, the sun did not shine regularly; there were cloudy days and some rain. However, we took the opportunity of taking bus rides and we saw more of Palma, including two fine art galleries.
This hotel is distinguished for the following: huge, spectacular double-level foyer complete with three sweeping staircases, a pool and waterfall: sea-view room with seven-foot bed; food cooked internally is excellent, including a club sandwich and hamburger which were large and delicious: terrace with large pool and over 150 sun loungers; you can spend most of the day there, with the outside cafe making food, drinks including a hand-made orange juice from local oranges for E4.00.

Breakfasts are truly outstanding.. Served from eight counters. All sorts of fruit, cava, meats, bacon, eggs, etc; far too many to list. You must include this.

You can take a bus to and from the airport for E2.50, a no 1 from 200 yards outside the hotel.

The staff are old-world courteous.

recently spent 2 nights at Melia Palas, got a great deal for B & B @ £80 per night, right on Marina front and a short walk to old town.
Entrance hall is very impressive, rooms are good (HUGE bed), very good choice at breakfast and pool area is lovely
would definately stay again !

We have been going to Palma regularly over the last few years and have always stayed in hotels within 10/15 minutes walking distance of city centre and main restaurant area. However this year we got a great deal from Alpharooms on the Melia Palas Atenea and decided to give it a try even although it is much further, 20/25 minutes, along the seafront from centre.
The hotel has a vast reception hall area with dark wood and light plasterwork. We found it impressive, and not as some reviewers have said, as being 1970/80's. There is a circular bar and lounge area in corner of reception hall which we found rather lacking atmosphere, so had drinks elsewhere. Cannot comment on previous reviewers suggesting bar prices expensive.
The reception staff were very pleasant and helpful with any queries or problems. However a word of warning, the hotel operates alternate smoking and non-smoking bedroom floors. We arrived late and after being allocated a sea view room on the 5th floor, which had good views of the Marina and cruise liner terminal, we went out for dinner. It was only in the morning we realised the 5th floor was all smoking rooms. We had requested a non-smoking room but because we were only staying 5 nights didn't go through hastle of changing rooms. The rooms are of a reasonable size and adequately furnished, also a large flat screen TV, but few english language channels.
The buffet breakfast offers a good selection of hot and cold food with the biggest choice of pastries and cakes we have seen in a hotel. The Majorcan food area in buffet was a nice touch. There is also cava and rioja available as part of the buffet breakfast. We didn't have dinner in the hotel as we prefer to visit restaurants we have discovered through the years. The hotel did offer a 3 course dinner with a drink (very restricted choice) for 17 Euros which is extremely cheap for Palma.
The pool area is restricted in size, as in all Palma seafront hotels, as they are located on 2nd or 3rd floors. We would recommend it is essential to pay for a sea view room, unless you don't intend to spend any time on balconies. This is because the side and rear rooms have absolutely no view apart from other buildings unless perhaps you are on top floors. There is a narrow road on side of hotel with 3 rather dubious nightclubs on the ground floor of hotel building (but not part of hotel), and at rear the ground floor rooms are below level of pavement, so no view, no sun, no privacy.
In conclusion we would recommend the Melia Palas Atenea, especially if walking distances to the city centre are not an issue. It is a pleasant walk along the promenade beside the sea and Marinas. Also you can get a No 3 bus for 1.25 Euros from behind hotel to city centre, rail and bus stations. Personally we still prefer one of the other solmelia hotels, purely on location, but would stay in the Melia Palas again if the deal offered was better than the others.

Room Tip: Look for best deal on a high floor sea view room .
