Description: This small restaurant offers the delights of Bengali food. As its name suggests, Baishaki (which means new year in Bengali) is a treat for the senses. It offers a unique tasting menu as well as a vegetarian version that changes frequently. The owner himself takes responsibility for guiding diners through this explosion of flavours and exotic scents. The restaurant, which is located right on Palma?s sea front, is decorated with care and has an exclusive atmosphere. Its tapestries, sculptures and antiques create the perfect setting for diners to enjoy its authentic cuisine.

Our first visit 6 years ago was fantastic ~ a different dining experience. We came back this year. The welcome and staff are great. The service is excellent. The starters are fantastic with a choice of dips that the owner explains vary from safe to dangerous, still all fantastic. However the selection of main course dishes were lacking in flavour for an Indian restaurant. I'm sure if Mr Gupta would taste the main course dishes then he might agree. Overall an interesting experience for first timers, but remember the food speaks for itself.

We visited the restaurant last night and we weren't disappointed. The method is that you recieve the best seasonal dishes on arrival. We sat down to wine and water then the head chef introduced himself then we were blown away with the pineapple and coconut curry, onion Bhajis with a side selection of dips. Then a selection of vegetable curries followed by seven meat and vegetable dishes of which the ostrich curry and banana curry were amazing. This restaurant can't be missed if your in Palma but make a booking as it gets busy. Ignore the pictures on the walls and thecarvings as it gives the appeal of the place, this is a Hindu restaurant and the service is first class.

Me and my daughter visited the Indian restaurant Baisakhi yesterday and it became a pleasant surprise, in the jungle of cafees and restaurants her in Palma. I must say, is not easy to find a place where you can feel that they actually put some attention and care to the foodmaking.
And I was sceptic also to this place since I found the recommendation in the touristinfo, which often tend to be not very good...after my standard...
So, we was met yesterday with a whole "Indian family", including the grandmother ;=) and they gave us a warm welcome, fresh flower leaves on the table, lots of candles and soft music (not indian;=). ANd no menu...no, we got surprised with the concept of theirs, that they offer only one menu, and that menu they create out of what they get fresh from the market, it includes wine (not so good), starters, which was really, really good Samosas!, and another starter, which was grilled Fasan with vegetables and an indian sauce, fresh and tasty. Than the mainmeal was consisting of 6 different curries, rice and 3 different breads. The chapati where a bit dry, I missed some butter on them, and the Pappadum a little on the salty side. The curries, especially the chicken and bananacurry was very good. The Spinach and Bean curry could have been a bit more tastier for my palate. But with the 5 bowls of different sauces to mix, it was no problem to create a pleasant taste. For dessert they served to slices of cake, like icecake, they was not that good, here they could improved better, and lifted the experience more, the last taste of the meal is improtant..it came also with 2 small coconutballs which was good, some kind of coconutdrink that was also good, and a can with Indian Chai Tea. The service was the best, they was all the time filling up our glasses and paying attention to how the meal was going, its seldom that you feel so taken care of and given absolute attention. Now there was not many customers at this point, so I cant say how it would have been if the restaurant was full, but the feeling is that they have some devotion into making the visit to their restaurant a good experience.
I can absolutely recommend a visit to this restaurant, though I will encourage them to improve their dessert :)
