“AMAZING”
Reviewed June 13, 2011

Whenever your staying at a hostal for the first time you're naturally weary as hostal's we've stayed at in the past have been unbearable but La Mimosa would have to definately be up there with one of the best we've ever stayed at. Not only does it have a boutique, family feel the minute you arrive but the place itself is set in a quiet, homely neighbourhood...and so close to the beach! La Mimosa is clean, homely, fresh, lively, friendly, smiley......like a home away from home. The service and the staff have an amazing knowledge of the island and where to go....you'll find most nights it's quite easy to spend a few hours down at the bar going through deliscious bottles of Spanish red wine...(and for an awesome price!).....there is nothing I could fault.....the rooms are spacious, pool is big and clean, BBQ areas, heaps of space to just lounge around and free internet. The breakky is simple, yummy and the coffee is brilliant. If your after something away from the hussle and bussle of Palma then this is definitely the spot to go to! Would recommend it to anyone! Not just backpackers! Absolutely amazing spot and so happy we found it!

I was looking for a place to stay in Mallorca that was basically just a place to sleep, since I planned to do a lot of sight-seeing. This hostel did the job just fine. It's not luxurious, but it's clean, comfortable, and the staff (who I assume are family) are very nice.

Breakfast is included, but it consists of bread, cereal, ham, cheese, yogurt, coffee, and orange juice. Definitely not a hearty English breakfast, but again, when traveling on a budget, beggers can't be choosers.

My showerhead was broken, so I had to hold it in my hand the whole time I showered, which is a bit bothersome, but manageable. The beds are simple, but actually more comfortable than some other beds that I have slept in in other hostels.

All in all, it's a fine hostel. If you're willing to sacrifice luxury for charm, than I definitely recommend this hostel.

Viaggare_low_cost gets it about right. The Mimosa is affordable, quiet, occupies a stoutly built old Mallorcan house in a sea-side residential area and is run by a laid-back Swedish family. It is possessed of a swimming pool and terrace and a bar frequented by rather seedy ex-pats, but they are no bother. Fellow residents tend to be bookish types on a budget and yacht crew between engagements.

If you are looking for somewhere away from the bustle of the main drag but a moment's walk to the sea and convenient to the city centre (maybe fifteen minutes on the frequent bus service); quiet, affordable, clean and private but with minimal mod cons, this is the place for you. The rooms are...well, 'monastic' is probably the word, with stone floors, basic beds, wardrobe and chest of drawers, dilapidated en-suite lavatory and shower and that's it. But they have views over the rooftops to the sea, and an admirable lack of intrusion. Some rooms have balconies.

In addition to the bed-and-breakfast rooms in the main building there is dormitory accommodation for backpackers and yachties in a separate annexe.

There is no central heating or air conditioning, so in winter the rooms can be a touch chilly and in high summer you are dependent on a breeze through the window, but spring and autumn conditions are just fine.

Free wifi is available on the terrace and reaches some of the rooms. PC and printer are provided for residents. Breakfast is included in the room price - basic but adequate, and with good coffee. There is a wide variety of acceptable neighbourhood cafes and restaurants within easy walking distance.

I have grown fond of this place for its quirkiness and convenience during a number of visits. For hot-and-cold comfort and luxury, though, be prepared to pay four times as much and to stay elsewhere.
