Having eaten in many restaurants in Palma over the years, including some of the very best, I am puzzled why Neo Cultural languishes relatively low down the order. It has been consistently excellent and on both the occasions that we visited last week I have no criticism what so ever.
Surrounded by other less interesting restaurants and bars, the entrance is not always obvious, hence there is now often a member of staff out front in the street. Don’t be put off. Inside there is a small, intimate bar where the staff make some of the best cocktails in town – considerably better that Abaco and on a par with Opio and there is always an excellent buzz about the place. The Espresso Martinis after dinner are always a particular hit, as are the fresh canapés that they serve gratis at the bar. However, the trick is to ensure you do actually transition to the restaurant at some point rather than getting stuck in the bar.
The jewel in the crown is definitely the small restaurant (or to be specific the chef). Whether you merely want interesting and original tapas or a main course the food has always been a delight. It is elegantly presented and of excellent quality. On top of which it is considerably cheaper than some of the other more well known venues in town. Do yourself a favour if you are in Palma, look it up and make a reservation, you will not be disappointed.
