Ca Sa Padrina
Reviewed October 22, 2009

Stayed for one night at the Ca Sa Padrina and it is definately unusual. The hotel is located superbly being only a short walk from Placa d'Espana where the train to/from Soller, the airport shuttle and the buses are located. We entered the hotel with no problems armed with our instructions but it seemed a little strange checking in using the various forms and faxing. However, everything seemed very well organised. When we entered our room (using a key as the security pad was not working), we were surprised to find a set of stone steps leading up from the room. When investigating further, a door opened to a small roof top terrace complete with sun loungers and table and chairs and proved to be an excellent place to relax after a tiring afternoon exploring Palma. Yes, I would recommend staying here but be aware that it is somewhere a little different.

We spent three nights in Ca Sa Padrina and would recommend it to others, with some reservations:
- our two rooms were on the 3rd floor and the stairs up to them were steep (the hotel warns you of this) so it would not be suitable for those who are less mobile or have heavy luggage
- the hotel is in the heart of the medieval city, so it is very atmospheric, lots of old buildings and narrow lanes. However bang opposite our room was a modern office/residential block - not so picturesque. It was a quiet area at night for a city though
- the area looks a little run down on first glance and a little offputting, but once we relaxed we were happy with it
- there is no member of staff in the hotel but they are on the end of the phone and are helpful
- the rooms are rather small but quaint, rather basically furnished
- the hot water ran out before I had my morning shower (9am)
- there is no means of making a cup of coffee or anything else within the building. This is not really a problem as there are plenty of cafes within a stone's throw, except if you like a cup of tea first thing before you get dressed for the day or last thing at night. A kettle and a few cups in the reception area would be a great improvement.

Otherwise I would say that it is a good hotel which enables the visitor to feel much more at home in Palma than in an anonymous conventional hotel. The location is hard to beat, both from being within the city and getting to and from the airport and the rest of the island. The roof terrace was lovely in February, even if overlooked, and would be an asset in the hotter months
