“Noisy and overpriced, don't go!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 31, 2011

We went to stay at Hostal Salinas for a week in August 2011. The plan was to stay there for a week but we left after two nights, we were charged for three nights which was a complete rip-off. We paid 260 Euro + 8% tax per night, the most this place should be charging is 80-100 Euro a night! And here are the reasons why:

1) It's located on the main road at the back of Salinas car-park, it's noisy, you always hear cars and lorries passing by.
2) There's no sound insulation in the building, we could hear everything: from the neighbor's alarm to the slamming doors downstairs.
3) The room was supposed to be the best room, however, it was rather small and without the character. The terrace was overlooking the backyard and had some very basic furniture, it looked so sad that you wouldn't want to use it at all, especially with your neighbors hearing and seeing you at all times.
4) The breakfast was a joke. Very, very basic and we had to ask staff for coffees which took ages.
5) The grounds were small with some worn-out decorations.

The only positive thing I can say that it's 5 mins away from the Salinas beach. But you can't be expecting people to pay 280 Euro a night just for this! Also, we were told that all hotels in Ibiza charge the whole fee on arrival and don't give the money back, however, it wasn't the case as our second hotel charged us at the last day for the actual duration of the stay. Don't go unless you want to stay in an over-priced roadside hostel !

After 3 bad reviews this August we have decided it is time to answer and give our side of the story.

The guests informed us that one of them couldn't sleep because of the noise as we happened to have 3 families with children staying which could have caused a little bit more coming and going as one can imagine. We informed the guests that we would charge them that night as at such short notice we would be unable to rebook the room, which we thought was the fair thing to do. A hotel is within its rights to charge the full amount for the stay booked, however under the circumstances we did not apply this. As it is we lost 4 nights on that room in peak season when we had had to turn down many requests from people who really wanted to stay with us. When we contacted some of these people they said that they would not be able to change hotel for the aforementioned reason, ie that they would have to pay the full price of before leaving the place they were in. Most hotels in Ibiza operate in this way, and if they do not then it is at their own discretion.

Our place in Salinas lies alongside the end of a one track road leading through the Natural Park. There is the coming and going of beachgoers during the day until around 8pm, after which point the traffic quietens to practically nothing until around 11am the next day, Salinas beachgoers do not get up too early. Admittedly Salinas is the most populated beach on the island and traffic may have risen above normal during the weeks of August but to say that we are by a busy road is we feel a little excessive.

Our breakfast, which guests are delighted to learn runs from 9am til 1pm, consists of the following:
Freshly baked croissants and bread. A selection of cold cuts including Iberian Salami and chorizo, serrano ham, mortadela, manchego cheese and edam cheese. Greek yoghurt, 2 different mueslis, hard-boiled eggs, toast, the option of a cooked breakfast on request, a selection of juices and a staff member is on hand to make freshly brewed tea and coffee upon clients´ arrival in the dining room. Any delay with service I can only put down to the arrival of most of the guests at once.

There are photographs of our rooms on our website which clearly show the dimensions of the rooms, the terraces, the furniture inside, the outside areas and the facilities we have. Our prices are clearly stated on our website, and we make every effort to make our guests' stays as pleasant as possible. August is peak season here, and for lower rates, seclusion and tranquility here in Ibiza this particular month is possibly not the best time to come, however many guests have marvelled at the calm and tranquility of our place amongst the relative mayhem which one can encounter in Ibiza in August.

We are a small, family run and close knit organisation and put a lot of our character into what we do here, so any comments we read are taken seriously and to heart. We hope by discussing some of the points mentioned in this review we have clarified things to the guests in question and to prospective guests alike.

The Hostals is perfectly located just 4 min. walking from the wonderful Salinas beach, in a nice quite area. The place however doesn't worth the price you pay: the rooms are small and poorly decorated, bath amenities almost not existing as well as any little detail which is normally what you expect from a boutique hotel. The breakfast as well is very "minimal" and very poorly presented. No care in general is payed to the presentation and the maintenance of the common area and the basics services. People are nice but this is not enough for 240euro+tax!!

This hotel is not worth 240 Euro per night. I actually considered moving, but was told it would end up costing around 900 Euro for the two nights, so was backed in to a bit of a corner and stayed. There is a house 5 minutes away which only costs 200 euro per night and sleeps 4. If only i knew about this before arriving. BHS is in a great location, which is the only reason I can assume they get away with charging what they do. It seems to me like a half hearted project that could have real potential, but unfortunately has been left incomplete. I would say 100 Euro is the max they can justify.

Arrival = Handed keys and then left to clamber up the stairs with our cases
Breakfast = a pile of bread next to a toaster. (which was initially broken). Some hard boiled eggs, a few slices off ham which look like they have been there for a few days, as did the less than fresh fruit
Apparently home baked bread - not at all. it is just reheated bought in bread
Rooms = Very basic with poor air con systems and smelly drains. Our room was left unlocked on about 3 occasions by the cleaners
Location = Great, but taxis don’t tend to come in to this area willingly. Most nights we have to wait around an hour – You need a car if you want to spend time away from Salinas
Service = The majority of the staff are lovely, however the owners need some pointers when it comes to dealing with complaints. They have a like it or lump it attitude
Anyhow , if you have booked this hotel, don’t worry you will have a nice time as long as you don’t mind paying way more than its worth

The Hostal Las Salinas is a wonderful place, Anita is a very nice host, she makes you feel at home. The rooms are very comfortable and clean, breakfast is very good and is served unti late in the morning . There's also a restaurant that prepares delicious dishes. On saturday afternoon they organize flamenco concerts in front of the bar, it's very fun

If you are looking to get away from the craziness that is Ibiza and clubbing then i can highly recommend the Hostal Salinas.

I have just returned from my honeymoon and can't praise this hotel and staff/owners highly enough.

On arrival the hotel was stunningly lit and we were greeted by David who made us feel like old friends arriving for a visit , we were given a quick tour of how everything worked in the room and advised that breakfast does not finish till 1pm, brilliant !

I had also asked for a bottle of champagne to be on ice for our arrival and sure enough it was along with 2 glasses and a bowl of fruit, perfect !

Our room was lovely, clean with a massive terrace facing the hills, 2 deckchairs, a small table and a candle, perfect for watching the sun set over the hills, the only thing i would have added is a full length mirror in the room, for the ladies of course !

Breakfast was of the continental variety with cold meats, cheese, toast and fruit along with tea and coffee, although on the last day Anita very kindly organised some bacon and eggs for our day ahead which went down a treat.

The hotel itself in general is extremely clean and tidy, the staff are warm, welcoming and laid back but by the same token, professional, knowledgable and organised.

Location wise it is a bit off the beaten track but where do you need to go ?

There is a stunning beach which is also a nature reserve over the road, moped and car hire is reasonably cheap and there is a bus stop 2 mins from the hotel that will take you to Ibiza town for 2 Euros in less than 20 minutes.

There is also a shop 2 mins walk that sells most things you would need....

All in all we had a fabulous time, it was our honeymoon and we were treated like royalty, quite honestly the most relaxing and enjoyable holiday we have been on, go there, you won’t be disappointed !

Hostal Las Salinas, takes its name from one of the best beaches in the Mediterranean. The Unique Selling Point of this hotel, is its close proximity to the beach, in an area protected by UNESCO for its natural beauty and special interest. The parkland reserve of Salinas is free from commercial development, so no big concrete hotels, just one or two small B&B style homes.
Hostal Salinas is the best accommodation the area has to offer. It blends local Ibiza charm with modern contemporary styles of European music and culture. Its less pretentious than many of its counterparts in Ibiza and the small hotel likes to party in a more relaxed and personal vibe.
Its got an Agrotourismo feel about it, but dont let this quiet appearance fool a person into thinking that the place doesn't half rock when it wants to. The management are three close friends Anita, Duesi and David. All three have a glint in their eye for spontaneity, while at the same time running a professional operation.
The rooms are simple and contemporary in style, with sharp clean lines and finishes. Nothing luxurious but well above the normal standard of hotel room in Ibiza. What impressed me was the cleanliness of the toilets, always a good sign of attention to detail. Views to the rear of the Hotel were better than to the front which overlook the road.
I would recommend Hostal Salinas to people who want a chilled holiday by the beach during the day but would like to enjoy the Ibiza party vibe by night. The owners are in their thirties with children, so I would feel they reflect the atmosphere and personality of this agegroup best. David is a DJ at nearby Space nightclub and is well connected to the Islands party scene.
There is no pool or sun loungers except for a small plunge pool, but Salinas beach is only 5minutes walk away.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back facing the hills.

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 13, 2011

Stayed in June 2009 with my boyfriend when it first opened for 5 nights.
It was more like a guesthouse than a hotel and the English owner David Phillips had great insider knowledge of the island.
Location is good - at the gateway of one of Ibiza's best beaches - Salinas where there are two of Ibiza's best beach bars, Sa Trincha and Jockey Club. We took advantage of the cheap car rental (cars on site of the hotel and everything so dead easy to arrange!) and drove to Cala Jondal which was 10 minutes drive and Playa Den Bossa/Ibiza town about 15-20 minutes drive; and also round the island - Ibiza is beautiful and definitely worth exploring.
Rooms were fine with a flat-screen tv, mini-bar and modern bathroom. Only downsides were that even though it was air conditioned the room could get extremely hot. There was also no large mirror which would be an added bonus.
It was so lovely waking up in a morning and hearing the waves crashing; it was a very quiet location...a bit of a rarity somewhere like Ibiza but great to go back to after a busy night's clubbing.
The hotel doesn't have a pool but when you're that near to the sea, who needs one? The chill-out lounge area is nice to relax in though.
We ate at the hotel' restaurant a couple of times and it was very good, in fact we went back fo lunch when we returned to Ibiza the year after.
A definite plus was that the hotel could arrange gueslist for clubs - very handy indeed as two guestlist places would just about equate to a night's stay - bonus!
All in all, would definitely recommend this hotel, it is definitely a world apart from some of the other bog-standard hotels in Ibiza and we are looking to return there this year.
