Charming old town. Go from bar to bar sampling the best pinxos in the world. Day or night is the place to be. Many places close for siesta.

The old town is the real heart of the city ,a small historic city ,full of charm and people .Parte Vieja has deep roots in the old district of fishermen .In my opinion the charisma of the old town lies in the old ,narrow labyrinth of streets, full of bars ,small independent shops and too many tourists. The main axis of the old town is of course Calle Mayor. At one end stands the wonderful church of Santa Maria del Coro ,and at the other end the huge cathedral of Buen Pastor .And do not forget the Plaza del Constitution .The Parte Vieja is a paradise for food lovers.

Our family spent a few hours in the old town and really enjoyed it. Lots of pastry shops and even more bars/restaurants. There are also lots of stores to visit. October was a perfect time to visit because it didn't feel crowded and the temperature was warm but not hot. We stepped into the old church and toured its small museum (it only cost 3 euros) while some folks were practicing on the large organ. After the tour we had a few tapas and did some window shopping. We spent about 4 hours just on one street and didn't get to see the rest. Really enjoyed it!

La parte vieja of the city is where you will find all those marvelous pincho’s restaurants where your first problem is deciding what to eat from myriads types of pinchos. But it is also the place where you can have a very good lunch or dinner at a sit down restaurant like Juanito Kojua , La Muralla, etc. Price wise you have to choose from a pincho at 3.5€ to a 54 € steak.

The old part of town is where most to the foodie action is. Lines of pedestrianised streets with ample bars and tapas (or pinxtos) bars. Go to the many where all the locals hang out, don't be put off by the crowds, muscle your way in you'll soon get served. Look at what the locals are ordering and do likewise many bars have their own 'specialities' meanwhile order a little pick of what you fancy laid out on the bars, I doubt you'll be disappointed.
