Stayed here back in 2003 and was amazed! It is truly one of places i've enjoyed staying in the most. The rooms are superb, and for the proces represent excellent value. The staff are helpful, although don't speak english - but we managed to break through the communication barrier!!!
I would recommend Pension Edorta to anyone stying in San Sebastian.

We changed rooms during our stay to fit in with other guests.... both rooms were great... although one didn't have an ensuite bathroom - however, the shared bathroom was right next door, never occupied and immaculatly clean - don't let not having en-suite put you off!

Only word of caution is that due to its exellent location in the middle of the old town.... i can get a bit noisy....

San Sebastian is a great place to visit.... we had a really great time!

We had an excellent stay at the Pension Edorta in May 2006. The staff members that we encountered were sweet and helpful and at least proficient in English. Our room was right next to the reception (I believe all/most of the rooms are on one floor of the building but I could be wrong). Our room was directly next to the bathroom which was spacious and immaculate. More importantly, there was always plenty of hot water!

We never had any problems with sharing the bathroom (I think 2 rooms shared our 1 bathroom) but it was also not high season. I got the general impression about San Sebastian that it really comes to life in the summer. Things were just starting to pick up in early May.

My friend and I have stayed in a number of budget hotels/hostels/pensiones throughout Europe and we can honestly say that Pension Edorta was one of the best. It was clean, safe and as a nice bonus, our room was nicely decorated! The location was great, right in the old part of town with plenty of other pensiones and food options in the neighborhood.

We stayed at the Edorta for one night in October 2006 and we booked a room with shared bathroom facilties for 40 euros. The management was gracious and friendly and kindly agreed to let us leave our luggage until our room was ready. The room was immaculately clean with a comfortable bed, fresh linens, and an adorable balcony looking out onto a charming street in the Parte Vieja, very close to the beach, the hills, a 31 calle de agosto, the main strip for tapas-hopping. There were several excellent bakeries close-by as well as a convenient internet cafe a few blocks from the pension. The bathroom was clean and enormous and very close to the room. The fire alarm unfortunately malfunctioned and went off while we were having an afternoon nap - and as a result, the manager discounted our room to 30 euros, which we thought was very classy. An excellent find and I would recommend it to anyone.

Great little pension in the middle of the old town in San Sebastian.
Our room (large) had a bathroom (large) and was very tastefully decorated.
It was also clean and the staff were extremely friendly.

I would not hesitate staying here again.
One thing though! If you are driving there, it is in a pedestrianised area.
So you have to drop the car at the nearest car park, and walk about 10 mins to the hotel.

Excellent accommodation and location. We were all really surprised by the value for money the Edorta offered, both rooms were really well decorated and very clean with en suite bathrooms, better than most 3 stars we have stayed in. Our room at the back of the Pension was very quiet, our friends with a room on the street found it a bit noisy at night, but are not complaining. Situated within the 'Parte Vieja' next to all the bars and nightlife but also two minutes to the port and the beaches. We all fell in love with the place and are planning a return trip this year. The staff could not have been more helpful. If driving it is worthwhile knowing that you cannot drive up to the Pension and need to park in the underground car park on the Boulevard and walk to the accommodation, it is five minutes on foot from there. Truthfully you do not need a car to explore the town it is far more interesting on foot and less confusing as much of the old town is pedestrianised.

There are loads of pensions in the old part of San Sebastian, which made choosing one difficult. I chose the Pension Edorta because the rooms looked fabulous on the website and the price was right. It's €60 for a double ensuite and €40 with shared bathroom. Our room was on the 2nd floor facing the street and we could make out the sea for our balcony. We had a shared bathroom and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be as you only share it with one other room. The shower was excellent. The bulding in which the pension is located is undergoing some work (the elevator looked newly installed and the stairs were being replaced) so we were awoken by workers unloading their supplies one morning. I didn't find the latenight streetside noise a bother but some might. What did annoy me a bit is that the hallway is not carpeted and so you hear people coming and going, opening and closing doors. Other than that, I recommend the pension and would stay there again.
