We had the pleasure of staying at Villa Soro for two nights in June,
and found our stay there delightful.
Our room was in the newer annex, and though I was a little disappointed to find this on arrival,
we were soon settled in to a modern, well furnished room with a very large bathroom, and all
the trimmings and features you would expect to find in a good hotel....
We found the staff provided a very high standard service in every respect, from the lovely ladies who looked after us at breakfast ( which was, by the way, fabulous) to the desk staff - everyone
could not have been more helpful.
The bar is a lovely place for a pre dinner drink with friends.
I notice some reviewers have stated that the location was far enough out of town to require a cab - we found this NOT to be the case - we walked in and out of the old town numerous times, including late at night, and felt safe doing so.
Highly recommended

The hotel is quite a distance from town (you need to drive or take a cab) but it is more like a home with great service and ambience. The room is large and very comfortable. I will pick the rooms in the old section.

Room Tip: in the old section - pick rooms not facing; might have noises from traffic at night

Good building with good rooms in the main building where we stayed but I do agree with previous reviews that this hotel is overpriced for what it is. They are confused in what they want to offer and want to be. Being part of the Small Hotels of the World affiliation they are aiming at the up market and select location customer, this they achieve but what they are lacking is the following: atmosphere!; up market beds and pillows; a functioning bar; towels need renewal; bedroom storage space is limited for a 5 night stay and a decent size breakfast room suitable for families (they assume couples only!).

They promote a champagne and tapas event between 1900-2100 each night and yet in the 5 nights we stayed here we were the only people in the bar, the bar always looked closed and unstaffed!

Overall a good place with some serious flaws and way overpriced !

I have stayed here twice. Next time - somewhere else. The annex rooms resemble a motel room. For 270 Euros, don't waste your money. Breakfast is very average. Minibar, non-alcoholic included but... a 7/8s empty bottle of water was not replaced. The emphasis is on saving pennies. Look elsewhere.

We loved our stay in this hotel---the staff were all super helpful and professional and San Sebastian is an incredible. My only complaint is that our room was located in the annex, rather than in the main building. Although the room was nice and certainly very clean, it lacked the charm of the main building.

The staff was amazing---every person that we dealt with was professional and well informed and they all went above and beyond to ensure that our stay was a great one.

The hotel is located about a 15 minute walk from the downtown area. Very pleasant walk (even with several rainy days during our stay). One day we took advantage of the free bikes that the hotel offers which was a fantastic way to spend the afternoon.

The breakfast every morning was really great---I recommend that if you are planning a stay here that you pay the extra fee for the breakfast!

We would absolutely stay in this hotel if we return to San Sebastian, we would just be sure to book a room in the main house.

Room Tip: ONLY stay in the main house!

Beatiful and charming hotel. We stayed in the main building and the room was spacious and very nice. No problem fitting a baby cot and 3 suitcases. Only downside was that we were on the -1 level that meant our balcony was sort of under ground level and didnt have a view, and there were no other windows. Breakfast was good, and all staff very helpful. We ordered dinner from the roomservice menu once, and the food was pretty avarage so definitively recommend eating out at many of San Sebastians meny nice restaurants.
The location is a bit out of the city centre, but only a few minute bike ride to the nearest beach, and 5 minutes to city centre. There are great bike tracks around town, and the hotel lend you bikes.

Room Tip: Book a room above ground

I stayed for six nights in the spacious room which has the balcony over the front door. The stay was part of my birthday celebration, and I was joined by a number of friends.

The staff were simply superb. I had planned the stay for some time, and was greeted like an old friend by Francisco. All of us commented on how welcoming the staff were and how much they wanted us to enjoy ourselves. All the front of house staff had an excellent knowledge of local restaurants and attractions in town and in parts nearby, including France. The breakfast, bar and lobby staff were charming and very efficient.

The deluxe room was very spacious and comfortable. The room décor is nicely understated. There was always an excellent flower arrangement in the main lobby, and the sitting room is that of an elegant country house. The impression one gets from the surrounding houses is that it was "the" area to build one's mansion back in the day.

I saw one of my friend's rooms in the annex and it was also spacious and tasteful if not quite to the level, or expense for that matter, of the deluxe room.

From my research, I knew that the hotel is not smack in the middle of downtown. It's a ten minute walk to the Zurriola beach, 20 to the old town, but with it virtually impossible to get a bad meal in San Sebastian, walking is by no means a bad thing. The street is a busy one, but quietens in the evenings which is when we made best use of the balcony. In any case, the windows are double glazed so noise isn't really an issue.

The lack of room service until 7pm caught a couple of friends off-guard as they arrived early afternoon and wanted a light meal. However, there is a supermarket less than 5 minutes away for snacks, plus you really should save your appetite for the fantastic local cuisine.

Room Tip: The most elegant rooms are at the front. The quieter rooms are at the back.
