The main reason I went to San Sebastian was to surf and it looked like a fun city that offered a nice sample of Spanish lifestyle. It didn't disappoint on either front.
San Sebastian has 2 very nice & active beaches - La Concha is the mellower of the 2 with gentle surf, extensive food options all at the foot of the city. Zurriola is the surf beach where waves can easily hit 6-8' and is pretty packed with surfers, body boards as well as just swimmers closer to shore. All of the board rental shops are right there as are lessons. I took lessons each day through Pukas and it's worth it, especially on a new beach.
There's one spot on the beach where you can rent beach chairs and umbrellas and there's limited food available right on the beach. However, with just a short 5 minute walk, there's plenty of food & drink choices.
I loved this beach and all day long, it had a very cool scene. More young people here and a bit more of a rowdy (fun) crowd.More
