When we arrived we were greeted by a staff member who spoke excellent English, which was helpful given our poor Spanish. The explanation on arrival included maps, explanation about catching the local bus and local walks, which assisted us to make the most of our time in San Sebastian. We requested a sea view on booking which we were really happy to receive and we spent a lot of time sitting on the verandah enjoying the view. The breakfast room also has a great view and breakfast is great value. There is tea and coffee available to guests at any time.

Room Tip: Request a sea view.

Hotel Leku Eder is a peaceful, elegent hotel with dark wood floors and simple but pretty decor. A bit difficult to find by car, but worth it when you get there as the view is spectacular. It was spotlessly clean throughout, with friendly staff and a lovely sunny breakfast room. We had emailed beforehand and requested a sea view, and although they said beforehand there was no guarantee they could provide this, on arrival we found we had been allocated a room with a sea view. There is no fridge in the room to put drinks in, but the receptionist kindly lent us a corkscrew so that we could drink our bottle of Rioja on the balcony! The sound proofing was not very good - we could hear a lot of scraping from above and other people's showers, but most guests seem to sleep in late (breakfast is served until 11am, which is a plus) so noise was not a problem at night. We had two single beds pushed together, which I found very comfy but my husband found a bit hard. Breakfast was simple but very fresh - huge croissants, bread, cheese, ham, fruit, cereal and yoghurt. I would definitely recommend this hotel if you want a peaceful retreat away from the town and have your own transport (or are prepared to rely on buses or pay for taxis into town).

Room Tip: As for a room with sea view.

The Leku Eder sits near the top of a steep hill a short distance outside San Sebastian, looking out over the Bay of Biscay. This is an older, family-run property that seems a bit tired but our room was clean and comfortable, with a great balcony facing west over the view. The receptionist was very helpful with information about local sightseeing.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the view would be quieter than those facing the road because of the hillside location...

This is the place to stay if you want to leave your car and use the local bus into the centre of San Sebastián. By doing this you get great value for money and fantastic welcoming staff who are always on hand to offer their knowledge. The hotel is styled very traditionally so if you like contemporary styling its not for you. We had a room with a terrace with sea view, basic but very clean. Good breakfast can be had for 5euros and is worth the extra.

Room Tip: Ask for sea view and terrace, we were told it couldn't be guaranteed but when we arrived it was...

A little gem, with extensive views over the coastline, away from the tourist centre, but with a very efficient, reliable bus service every 30 minutes till 10 pm outside the front door that took 20 minutes to be in the old town.We were warmly greeted by "Iggy"/Ignatius..not his Basque name and found all staff very friendly...and I feel this helped create a family atmosphere to the hotel. Our room was spotless, breakfast was simple but ample. We would recommend this hotel if you like something different.Although we did not have a car, there was a large car park attached.

Stayed for one night on the way to Biarritz and was surprised at how good a 2 star hotel in Spain could be. Would never dream of staying in one in the Uk. The hotel is clean and has an old fashioned charm to it. There are solid wooden floors and pictures all over the walls. The receptionist was extremely helpful spoke excellent English. The breakfast is good value for 5 euros with cereals, bread, ham, juice plus tea & coffee. The only reason I think they do not get more stars is that there is no lounge or other facilities. The view from our room was fantastic overlooking the hillside out to see, and goats grazing down below. Good for a couple of nights as a base but not longer as no facilities but excellent value for money.

Highly recommend this charming friendly hotel. Staff was extremely helpful, we arrived a day early, they managed to take us early and were ready to respond to any questions or needs. We parked our car and took the bus, which stops in front of the hotel, to town. We had a lovely double room on the 2nd flr with a view of the sea, lighthouse, and mountain. Just sit on your balcony listen to the goats below and look at the view. Breakfast was in a sunny room overlooking the sea and cliffs, a dream come true. If you are looking for a luxury hotel with fancy duvet, etc, this is not for you. But if you want a comfortable, clean, professionally run hotel in a magnificent location this hotel is for you. This Happy traveler would return and make this hotel my base to visit many other towns and sites in the Basque area.
