“Noisy”
Reviewed June 25, 2013

You can hear everything in the room. Especially people closing and opening their doors. Would not stay in this hotel again as the sleep is interrupted due to the rooms not having any sound proofing. The picture of the room advertised was shown bigger then what it really is.

Stopped overnight en route to Southern Spain. Welcome was quite formal. Room was very large and comfortable, Bar/lounge provided very good snacks and drinks in nice surroundings. Free wi-fi throughout hotel. Parking was a bit steep at 15 euros per day. Beach is a ten minute walk down a fairly steep hill, Another 10/15 minute pleasant walk along a promenade by the sea takes you into San Sebastian where you will find lots tapas bars and restaurants through lovely old streets. Hotel is a bit of a distance from the Town but I would stay here again.

Whilst this hotel is a bit out of the main town a 25 minute walk will get you to the centre, the added benefit of walking to the centre is that you can experience the local bars at the bottom of the hill, good value, good quality and very local just what you want from a city break.

The hotel itself is fairly new and the rooms and bar reflect this, whilst we were there the weather was so bad that we could not use the outdoor pool which looked excellent. The spa is a different experience, we had the massage for a couple and it was OK.

The breakfast is excellent and lends itself to a break that include sampling the local Pincho's in the late afternoon. Good choice, quality product and plenty of it.

Would definitely look to going back, easy 4 star.

This a modern style hotel with bright colours and open areas . It is around 20 mins walk from the
Bar areas of the town but much cheaper than the central hotels at 95 Euros excluding breakfast .
Rooms are clean and bright and the bar/ restaurant is friendly and it is popular with
Camino walkers .
One criticism is that we found it noisy in the morning . Staff were friendly and spoke English.

Room Tip: I would recommend rooms on the sea side of the hotel .away from the elevators

I stayed one night at Barcelo Costa Vasco in May 2013, and had a very pleasant stay. The hotel is located around 30 minutes brisk walk from the old town, but it is easy parking nearby if you fancy driving down. A lot of the hotels in the same price class as Barcelo seem to be equally “far” away.
My room was large, spotlessly clean and very chic and modern. The bed was comfortable and had one of the best mattresses I have had in Spain. The bathroom had a bathtub, and the awkward bathroom doors found in many Barcelo hotels. To the designer: No, it is not especially nice to hear, and partly see, everything that is going on in the bathroom. Another problem was the temperature; when I arrived it was 16,5 degrees and it took several hours before it reached 19 degrees. Otherwise the room was very functional, and even had free WiFi (on hotels.com it is said to be able only in the reception area). I had a balcony facing the back of the hotel, and even with an open window I could barely hear any traffic.

The receptionists were all helpful and smiling, and gladly answered questions. It was possible to buy the breakfast for EUR 17 per person – extremely overpriced when you consider the price of the hotel alone (around EUR 85).

You can park for EUR 15 per day outside the hotel or in their underground parking. The hotel is located in a quiet and nice neighborhood, but it did not seem possible to park on the streets nearby.

We booked this hotel using our Tesco Clubcard vouchers, as they have an offer whereby you can exchange the vouchers for 3 times their value with Barcelo hotels. We have also taken advantage of this offer in Sevilla and found the hotel there to be great!

The Barcelo Costa Vasca is located outside of the main tourist part of San Sebastian and about a half hour walk to the old town. It's set in a residential area, and so is relatively quiet and felt very safe. Upon check in, the staff were quite surly, and we weren't made to feel especially welcome, but this didn't bother us too much.

We went up to the room however, and it was clear that a smoker had been staying there before us, as the room absolutely stank of stale smoke. We went back to reception and asked to change- no problem there and we were moved to a much more suitable room.

We had a lovely stay in San Sebastian overall, and the hotel served as a great base for exploring this pretty coastal city. The breakfast in particular was great value for money and offered something for everyone. We didn't spend a large amount of time in the hotel, as when we are away we like to be out enjoying the place we are visiting, but if I had to be really critical I would make 2 complaints.

1. The cleaners seemed to come and clean the rooms excpetionally early- one morning we had a knock at 8am?? They were also really very loud outside the rooms.

2. The walls are paper thin and you cna hear everything from the rooms next to you, down the corridor and under you.

Overall, it was a good base to explore the pinxto bars of San Sebastian, but would not have been my first choice had we not been using the Tesco vouchers.

Room Tip: Try and ask for a corner room as they seemed quieter!
